Haha that's really funny. It's kind of cute...but still something to roll your eyes at!

To clarify, event shirts usually have (in addition to the name of the formal/event) either the sorority's letters -so any man wearing it would clearly not be a member, but a guest ( and ditto for a fraternity formal/event shirt - any woman wearing it would obviously be a guest)or in the case of a mixer, the fraternity and sorority letters - a woman wearing them would be a sorority member, a man wearing them would be in the fraternity. So there is no "giving" of letters, per se, when a guest WEARS the letters on an event shirt.

Sorry bout the typo. But yes, other people who are greek know that when a male is wearing a shirt with a sororities letters that it is probably an event or mixer. Other people in the community don't know that though. But that is not my point. 'I' feel it IS giving away my letters no matter how you word it. When we do our big philanthropy, mixer, or any events we don't put our letters on the shirt, we spell out the letters. To some people that might not be a big difference but it is. Same way that a pledge can not wear the letters or any other symbols of the Fraternity except for their pledge pin or shield. And I know that my chapter is not the only GLO that does that, so why do you let members of another GLO wear your fraternity symbols or letters if not even your pledges can't?

I guess I shouldn't post pictures of my Sigma Chi event shirts. . .
I've got no problem with whatever your chapter chooses to do - I totally respect your right to do as you wish regarding your letters. I am a big fan of traditions and upholding them. I do think you can do it without being critical of those who chose to do things differently.
Our new members wear our letters from day one - it is the crest and the badge which are reserved for initiated members, which I think makes them that much more special. But to each his own - GLOs are great because they differ in all kinds of interesting ways.

The "where/wear" thing threw me because of the topic - Where do you wear your letters? - but no worries - it's all good now.
eta - Spell Check is great, but if you type something which is indeed a word, albeit the wrong one, it won't help!

I have shirts from my husband's fraternity, with the letters spelled out, that I wear around the house and such. They're good shirts I think it kind of hurts the brothers' feelings, though, when I turn down the lettered event shirts. I wish they'd just take a hint already and stop trying to give them to me I know I'm ALLOWED to wear to their letters, but I do not WANT to ...

folks asking me about another org's requirement process
"Can you put in a good for me since you talk to them regularly, my name is _______ and I've been wanting to be a member of XYZ since I was a child (insert childhood story), I meet all the requirements, but I don't know if they like me, plus my aunt is an XYZ so I think I know somewhat what to expect"
Urm...I'm not a member of that org, why do you think they'll take my word for it? Why are you telling me, yeah I talk to XYZ but I don't bring up their or my business..*SMH*

I think the above story is more titillating when you let us know that XYZ is really an org that rhymes with Lelta Ligma Leta.

Someone asked me....
"Are you in a sorority?"
I decided to not be snarky that day and explained the difference....
"Whatever they still the same thing...are you in one or not 'cuz I wanna join."
.....yeeeeeaahhhh
OK...and not calling anyone out....Senusret...I told you this one...hehehehehe
How about I went to a party for the coming out of some XYZ sisters.
$5 for Gen Public
$2 for Greeks in 'nalia
I went with 2 of my homeboys, Omega Psi Phi bruhs....
(no they weren't Deltas BTW....hehehe ...don't infer from the Omega reference!)
we got to the door...they paid and went in...
The young lady (neo soror) charged me $5
"But it says $2 for Greeks"
long slow stare as I see her trying to translate my letters
" I didn't know the Ques changed thier colors "
"They didn't."
"But aren't you a Que?"
"No."
"Then what are you?"
My Omega friends and I are cracking up at this point...but I am still no closer to getting in....heh.
"Read my Jacket"
"Phi....wait...he's not a Sigma because that's an "O" ...Omega?... Patti (I have to change the names to protect the innocent and I don't remember them anyways but you know where this is going....) What letter is O in the alphabet?
" Huh? O is O!"
"No in the Greek alphabet?"
"Girl! I don't know...that's not important! I gotta run and find the DJ!"
( The Dj was an hr and a half late but that is another story!)
"Sir, I don't think I can let you in unless you pay regular admission, because you aren't a regular Greek..."
We are falling out laughing by now...and just then two of their sorors (one my sands) comes in and wonders why we holding up the line.
They explain what's going on and their sorors more or less tells them to stop BSing around, let me in, and for the hassle, let me in for free, and when they complain about not getting my loot, they tell them well whose fault that you can't read my letters?
Someone says...don't blame them, blame their dean.
