To clarify, event shirts usually have (in addition to the name of the formal/event) either the sorority's letters -so any man wearing it would clearly not be a member, but a guest ( and ditto for a fraternity formal/event shirt - any woman wearing it would obviously be a guest)or in the case of a mixer, the fraternity and sorority letters - a woman wearing them would be a sorority member, a man wearing them would be in the fraternity. So there is no "giving" of letters, per se, when a guest WEARS the letters on an event shirt.
Sorry bout the typo. But yes, other people who are greek know that when a male is wearing a shirt with a sororities letters that it is probably an event or mixer. Other people in the community don't know that though. But that is not my point. 'I' feel it IS giving away my letters no matter how you word it. When we do our big philanthropy, mixer, or any events we don't put our letters on the shirt, we spell out the letters. To some people that might not be a big difference but it is. Same way that a pledge can not wear the letters or any other symbols of the Fraternity except for their pledge pin or shield. And I know that my chapter is not the only GLO that does that, so why do you let members of another GLO wear your fraternity symbols or letters if not even your pledges can't?
