"Lyle Love" is a termed used in reference to the connection between Alpha Phi Alpha and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Outside of the organizations being the first fraternity and sorority founded for African American collegians, there is a kinship between the groups based upon Lyle Love. In 1907 George A. Lyle was among those to charter the Beta chapter at Howard University. This chartering inspired others to act in a similar fashion. On January 15, 1908, Lyle’s high school sweetheart girlfriend, Ethel Hedgeman led a group of young women in founding Alpha Kappa Alpha, thus sparking the bond between the two organizations. The couple’s senior year found them both as chapter presidents. In December of 1908, when Howard was hosting Alpha Phi Alpha’s first convention, the first joint social was held, initiating a long legacy of programs sponsored by both groups. This bond was later cemented when the pair married on June 21, 1911. Currently, members of the two organizations have been known to refer to each other as brothers (bros or frat) and sorors and calls of "’06, ’08, Oh, Yea" can be heard across many yards. In addition to the similarities between the series of signifying greek letters (though both have individual meaning significant to the org), the hand symbols used are also similar. The two have been commonly combined with the member of Alpha Phi Alpha extending his thumb while bring his hand together with the hand of a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha with her pinky extended. The Phirst Pham of Black greek organizations, also called "The Phirst and the Phinest," have continued to flourish and have remained connected through Lyle Love.

--As from some "homework" i had to do one day

To shed light on th Que-Delta Connection: Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. Founder Frank Coleman (1911) and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Founder Edna (Brown) Coleman (1913) were married and many other friendships amongst both organizations developed during that time and that is how the term "Coleman Love" was derived.

hope this helps
