Hey.

I think I love you.

So what am I so afraid of?

You know what, screw decorum and trying to stay classy. I'm tired of being dogged by people that don't know me, where I go to school, or anything about our greek system. Frankly, it speaks incredibly poorly of the people who have been posting, and exemplifies the elitist stereotype given to sorority women. Go ahead, flame me for saying it- many of you have been doing that already without justification. What's worse is that many of you have been getting onto some other posters for backing me up (without knowing me) and now many are making judgements about me without knowing me. Pretty hypocritical.

How many times have GC regulars said that sometimes it takes more then one shot at FR to get a bid? It may take a COB effort or maybe just one more additional round through FR. I have already said that I know plenty of girls at my school who had to go through twice. There's nothing wrong with them. They weren't unqualified women, they weren't hideous, they had the grades, they just didn't get a bid. Just because you don't get a bid, it doesn't mean that for the rest of your collegiate life you are unworthy of being in a sorority. I will concur that going through FR more then twice, or attending multiple COB events, is a bit overwhelming for sorority members and a bit pathetic on behalf of the PNM. However, sometimes women who truly would be assets never get the chance to shine for stupid things like rumors, or relationship status, or maybe the friends they have. Don't act like you haven't denied membership to some girls because of some shallow reason like that, because many of you have admitted to doing so. I suggest that those of you passing judgement look up the word HYPOCRITE. It applies to you.

I did have a lot of friends in house, and have more now. And for your so-called "voting bloc" if that were the case in this particular house, why did the president rush me and why did they not drop me the day after I was grouped with 3 actives? If they were trying to bar me from entering their house, common sense would dictate they would have dropped me as soon as they could. And uh, they didn't. Rush at my school this year was pretty crappy. One house got fined out the wazoo for spreading rumors and rush-infractions. Another got put on probation for dirty rushing. There was also a significant number of girls who did not get bids this year. We really do need a 5th house, but it'll never happen. Once again- your ignorance of my location and school makes it pretty impossible for anyone to pass judgement about my situation and how things work here. I didn't know during some of my posts that most girls actually did secure recs. I also didn't know that one of the chapters here is considered the have the most competitive rush in our state, which was shared with me by several alums. I left out a lot of little details for sake of privacy for myself and the alums who assisted me.

Also, just because you "voted no" once doesn't mean you'll do it again without considering new developments in the person. There are plenty of real world examples for this. Such as someone who gives you a bad first impression, but when you get to meet them again and talk more- guess what? You like them!! Holy crap!! But wait, you already wrote them off once so I guess that means you'll have to do it again, right? Forget the fact that now you think that person is cool. Your first impression will reign supreme, well based on your post at least.

Finally, the position I posted about really would make a difference. Without revealing my identity, I can't tell you much about it. I can guarantee you that nearly all of the girls selected for this elite organization will end up on homecoming court before they graduate, if they haven't appeared on it already. Some will likely end up presidents of their sorority or fraternity. This organization has also yielded nearly every SGA president or Vice President. Are you starting to understand why I said it's a big deal? It's a huge honor to be part of this tradition and to be in the spot I'm in. I'm blessed to have the opportunity and to utilize it for some good on my campus. However, if it helps me go greek- cool. If I decide not to rush again, then thats fine too because I'll have this on my collegiate resume insted of greek letters. Just because I said it would give me an edge doesn't justify creating 3 pages of worthless bashing and flaming based off of NOTHING except a simple comment that had some truth to it.

/the end of soliloquy.

Pot, meet kettle. Aren't you the one who called National Panhellenic "silly" and "stupid" among other things, just because they cancelled a winter rush that really wasn't needed?

Plus, if you keep saying "I know the REAL story" and things of that ilk, people are going to (I know this is a shock) ask you what it is, and really bizarre possibilities are going to pop into their heads.

Anyway, it seems to be working. I had one girl approach me and say "Soliloquy, I feel so stupid for not voting you in. You're the SH*T!!!!" hahaha. Granted, she was pretty drunk- but you know what alcohol does to people... makes them tell the truth.
Like that.

It sounds like you've already convinced yourself that you're too good for the Greek system. I wish you success in whatever it is you want to do, but you really need to sit back and look at the tone of your posts. I've never had any issue with you, but lately it seems like you have a big chip on your shoulder since recruitment and have dismissed Greeks as "elitists" while stroking your own ego with your other "elite" organization. I'm glad you've found your niche, but please understand why people are reacting the way they are. If someone said your "elite" activity was a bunch of crap, you'd defend it. We're defending our Greek system, and we trust our sisters to have made their decision for a reason.

ETA: Bragging constantly about your accomplishments is a huge turn-off in person. Recruitment isn't the time to list all of your accomplishments. Just be yourself, not what you think others want.

You know, the smart thing to do would've been to just say thanks to people for the help/advice and ignored what you didn't like.

Instead you're airing some dirty laundry rumours and saying sorority members exemplify an elitist attitude and calling people hypocrites. Great way to make an impression.

For the record, liking someone online carries no weight when they don't know you in person. Maybe you come off great online (well ... not now, but maybe you could have) and you seem like a great addition to a sorority on paper, but maybe in person you're annoying or you dress weird or you have an attitude that turns people off or you don't use deodorant. Those things might not be "visible" online. So you go into things thinking you're a hot shit because all your online friends think you're awesome, you get dropped and you're all WTF?

I think online folks are WAY out of line making comments about any PNMs chances or her suitability for Greek life when they don't know someone in person. And even when you DO know someone, it doesn't mean you know what a sorority is looking for.

Moral of the story: keep your trap shut

Soliloquy - A few points:

Its not that hard to figure out where you go to school at. All you have to do is look at your posts vs. the time of year when you went through recruitment and cross referenced with a few comments that you have made here and there about your school. Its not that big of a secret.

Just because a house invites you back after first round, doesn't mean that they absolutely love you. They could be on the fence about you and offered to give you a second chance and/or they have to follow the proper release figure guidelines.

Just because the president of the sorority talks to you during recruitment doesn't necessairly mean you are any more special then all the other girls that are going through recruitment. Presidents talk to ALOT of pnms.

Good luck with your "elite" position and I hope that whatever you decide to do you will do it with a little more humility.

Too late now - but I think your last post, Soliloquy, is an example of a post which should not be posted. Written, perhaps - posted, no. It can't help you - and could hurt you. Humililty is always a good thing - the chapters know of your acomplishments (they are listed on the form, I'm sure, if not on recs). What they need to know is you - personally.
At the end of the day you can't worry about the opinions of anonymous posters on the internet. You can take advice under consideration, and then go forth. But complaining and criticizing the very system you hope to be a part of is not a good idea. You have to understand - we love our GLOs, we love the NPC.
The best thing for you to do now, imho, is to concentrate on presenting your best self during recruitment, and wait to come here and let us know the results. Good luck.

Co-sign on all of the above. I did one Google search and found your school IMMEDIATELY. Of course I won't say it, but considering you're planning to rush again, rants like that are NOT so nice.

Edit: from what you said about your new position, it was easy to pinpoint you down to one of FIVE women. Looking any more, it would probably be relatively easy to find out who you are.
