To the OP, I don't know all the ins and outs, but my understanding is that as long as you haven't initiated into an NPC sorority, you are still eligible to rush them. I would guess that rushing other locals would totally depend on the locals' own rules. If you want to rush NPC, plan to do it while you're a fulltime undergraduate student. However, I think there are opportunities to join service/social sororities at any age, that could always be an option. Sorry things didn't work out with your local and good luck with whatever you choose to pursue.
I, too, thought that she might not have realized that it was in a specific GLO's forum, but the SK link makes it too much of a coincidence.

OP, if it means anything, prior to joining my sorority, I pledged a local. During the pledgeship, I realized that their idea of "sisterhood" was not something I wanted to be a part of...so I depledged. The following semester, I met a group of wonderful girls who convinced me to check out an Alpha Gam rush event. The rest is history.

Stick around GC a while, and make sure to read up on the threads about the different kinds of sororities. One of them might just be the one you're looking for.
