But I've so much on how you should go even if you don't want to or they'd it'd get around to the other girls.
That's why I wouldn't have the guts.

Keep that attitude, PNM08...it's called maximizing your options. Panhellenic recommends that you do that so you have the lowest chance of ending up empty handed on Bid Day. As for Tippiechik...would you really drop a group because a sister "blinked too much?" That's pretty superficial...the poor girl may have a tic! If it was deeper than what the OP wrote, then you can't blame PNM08 for being confused that a Junior Transfer Student would have enough guts to be that picky!

I agree, I love all the woodwork! Very sohpisticated and unique - I could just see the ZTA crest made up like that. *tear*
Congrats Richi! You've joined a truly wonderful sisterhood in Tri-Delta!

Do you seriously think the op dropped a house SOLELY b/c of the blinking?
Yeah, tell her to maximize her options. Then, when she gets a house she really doesn't want and ends up dropping as a pledge, I'm sure you'll be around to console her...
It's called being honest with people. We need to be telling pnms that it's ok to drop houses they are positive they don't want. GC rush addicts blow so much sunshine up pnms butts that they go in thinking rush is all rainbows and puppies.
I would rather see someone empty handed on bid day and still have a chance of joining a group later through cob than tell her to maximize and have her join a group she doesn't want. She'll then either 1) drop after the group spends a ton of time trying to retain her or 2) Stay in and regret her choice.
Sure people join groups they are not sure about. And, yes... There ARE people who give it their best and end up liking that house. But, if someone KNOWS deep down a group isn't for them, why would you want to tell them to still consider them?
Is it "Panhellenic" to give such advice? No. It's honest. Plain and simple. We all see these girls come back if they get THAT house wanting to know if they can drop and rerush. And, then GC scolds her for not being sisterly AFTER we've told her to maximize and give everyone a fair shot! We give her the bad news of having to wait to rerush and tell her that groups look down on people who pledge and drop.
So, suck a big one if you don't like my advice. I don't care -- I'm actually telling the truth that most here don't have the guts or desire to do.

Some campus Panhellenics require PNMs to attend every party on their schedules or the PNM is dropped from recruitment (unless the PNM's absence is excused). Some campus Panhellenics will guarantee a PNM a bid (to a chapter where she attended preference) if she ranks all chapters whose preference parties she attended, provided that the PNM also attended every party on her schedule in previous rounds or had an excused absence if need be.
I agree with AOII Angel that it's a good idea to "maximize your options" by attending every party on your schedule and by keeping an open mind, looking for the best in all chapters, etc. However, it is also important to be honest with yourself and evaluate where you truly think you fit. Tippie, I agree with you that it is horrible advice to tell a PNM to rank all three chapters after pref if she would only be happy in one or two. I think PNM08 was just shocked that richi decided to skip a chapter because her school might have harsher consequences for skipping a party.

Well, it's really guaranteed matching after preference if you rank all your choices, not "sign up for recruitment and we'll make sure you get a bid somewhere" because of course, a PNM can get cross-released before preference. It's an incentive to discourage suiciding, to match more women who "played fair".

richi - you can't go to the best school in the midwest because I do, even though you beat the crap out of us in football every year. Just kidding, OSU is a great university. Congratulations to you on Tri Delt.

Actually, I know of a school that guarantees a bid to anyone who maximizes her options. If she is dropped by everyone before pref, the PNM is invited back to her top choices.

Wow that's something I've never heard before! So at that school if there is a PNM your house doesn't "mesh with" you have to cut them the first or second night or risk being forced to give them a bid?

Yeah, I know Tufts does that but I was trying not to derail.
