Ummm, I think you mean 45 degrees. 90 degrees is a right angle.

I was replying to the notion of a Pi staircase, which would be 90 degrees. I said that the real staircase has to be an Alpha, Delta, or Chi because these have more realsitic angles. Come to think of it, it could be a Kappa too.

Keeping the thread off topic...

I have been trying to find a photo of the infamous staircase to nowhere at the Pitt Student Union. When I think of it, its shape IS an Omega - a horseshoe shape, flaring at the bottom. The SU was actually the Hotel Schenley at one time, "the" posh hotel in Pittsburgh, and the staircase went to an exclusive ballroom on the mezzanine. Of course, that's before the geniuses at Pitt decided to kill the whole concept - so now it's just used for photos. And yes, you do have to walk up & down with great care & grace.

Anyone have a picture to back me up?
ETA: found the following. Mods, if you can scale it down, please do so. There are no copyrights on it (and usually not that much furniture!)

installment 5

Day 5 dawned, and I dressed to go and pick up my invitation. Then I heard it. A timid knock. I opened the door, and there stood Antoinette. I instinctively hugged her, knowing the news. Then I started to cry. And cry, and cry. I was practically hysterical (In hindsight, I cannot believe that there were no counselors on call for cases like this.) Anyway, I somehow found a ride to the dorm I would be living in. I called my mom, and told her that I had withdrawn. I could not bear to admit that I had been released. I moved into my dorm, and met my new roommate. She, too, had withdrawn. We met up with some other rush dropouts, and went out that night. (many girls seemed to have withdrawn from rush) I adjusted to college life, and made friends. The story could end here… or I could tell you what ultimately happened. What will it be?

Cool

Fast forward to October. I settled into dorm life, and began to make friends. One particular Saturday afternoon, my roommate and I were hanging out in our dorm room, when another knock on the door came. (Actually, we were consuming, ahem “beverages” concocted in a blender…remember, the eighties were not an abstemious era!) I opened the door, and there were two sisters of Berlin, smiling at me and asking how I had been. I had been half expecting something like this to happen. (I suspected that Antoinette, my wonderful rush counselor, had given my name to the office of student life.) They invited me to dinner at the house, the following Monday.

Monday night rolled around. I donned the blue shirt dress with the puffy sleeves, and set out for the Berlin house. The sisters of Berlin seemed really happy that I was back. I don’t remember many details, but I do remember thinking that meeting the girls of Berlin for dinner did not feel like rush- it felt like I was meeting friends. I remember one of the girls sat with me while I waited for an escort back to my dorm, and showed me all of her Berlin photo albums. I spent a few more evenings with the sisters of Berlin, and was pleasantly surprised at how much fun I had with them. A couple of the Berlin sisters also greeted me when they saw me on campus. I had liked this group during formal rush, and I liked them even more now that I was getting to know them in a more relaxed way. They were not as big, or established, as some of the other chapters, but that did not bother me. I was looking for a group where I could make close friends. Finally, I was instructed to stop by the Office of student life at the appointed hour, and pick up an envelope…..I picked up my envelope, and opened it to find a bid to Alpha Gamma Delta!
