According to Young, Black & Fabulous:
Reports have been pouring in since this morning stating that Kanye West’s mother, Dr. Donde West, has died. News sources and sources close to the family state that due to complications during cosmetic surgery, Donde West passed away last night. Chicago’s #1 hip hop station WGCI in Chicago, IL first reported the news today with no details, as well as People.com and Allhiphop.com. Rhymefest, who is very close to Kanye, was on WGCI today expressing his condolences and stated that Kanye is on his way back from London now. I also received an e-mail from a member of Kanye’s family earlier today confirming that Dr. West did die during surgery complications, and Kanye was informed very early this morning. I waited to post anything about this sensitive situation until I had credible sources confirm, and they have.

I am still on the fence about this story. I'll give it until the morning before I believe it. I am skeptical because certain reports are stating that she died having a tummy tuck and breast implants. Call me naive, crazy, or whatever, but I don't see his mother needing breast implants.
Secondly, it's just one story picked up and reported by various sources. I know that news typically operates like this, but it is literally ONE story that is repeated and each reporting sources has subbed their name as the person that has "confirmed" the story or spoke with the "spokesperson."
Lastly, I just found it strange that this "spokesperson" was speaking under anonymity "because all family members had not been contacted."  Who else is there to contact if Kanye was contacted? It's just all too strange to me...
The only thing that gives this story some credence is the fact that Kanye stated in his song "Roses" off the Late Registration album that his grandmother was having difficulties because she her heart couldn't take the anesthesia.

Maybe it's something that runs in the family.
I'm waiting for a more definitive news release.
