Brrr...It's Winter 2K5-2K6 News
Let's keep it going into the New Year!
NUPE4LIFE, I copied the article about Lou Rawls here. Pray the Lord takes care of him.
Lou Rawls' Last Days?
by Joal Ryan
Dec 16, 2005, 3:30 PM PT
A singing great "is not expected to live much more."
Grammy winner Lou Rawls is ailing from lung and brain cancer, the Arizona Republic first reported Friday. The paper cited statements made at a court hearing Thursday by the entertainer's estranged wife.
a d v e r t i s e m e n t
Nina Rawls told a judge in Maricopa County, Arizona, that her husband's condition once was so grave that he had been given a one-month-to-live prognosis.
"By his doctor's own admission," a tearful Nina Rawls said, per the Republic, "he is not expected to live much more."
But Rawls, who turned 70 on Dec. 1, was well enough to take a phone call Thursday night from the newspaper in his Los Angeles hospital room.
"Don't count me out, brother," Rawls told the paper. "There's been many people who have been diagnosed with this kind of thing, and they're still jumpin' and pumpin'."
Rawls' publicist has not gone into specifics on his client's condition, noting only that Rawls has been diagnosed with cancer and is receiving "various treatments."
By Nina Rawls' account, the newspaper reported, the singer was diagnosed with lung cancer one year ago, and brain cancer about seven months ago.
The revelations about Rawls' health were made public in a hearing on the soul man's request for an annulment from Nina Rawls. The pair wed on New Year's Day 2004, per IMDb.com. According to the Republic, Rawls is accusing his bride of funny money business.
Rawls and Nina Rawls, 35 years his junior, are the parents of an infant son.
A onetime collaborator of rock/soul/gospel legend Sam Cooke, Rawls' recording career as a solo artist dates back more than 40 years. In all, he has released more than 75 albums. His distinctive deep voice has won him three Grammys, and scored a gold-record hit with the 1976 slow-dance groove, "You'll Never Find (Another Love Like Mine)."

Morgan Freeman Criticizes Black History Month
NEW YORK (Dec. 15) - Morgan Freeman says the concept of a month dedicated to black history is "ridiculous."
"You're going to relegate my history to a month?" the 68-year-old actor says in an interview on CBS' "60 Minutes" to air Sunday. "I don't want a black history month. Black history is American history."
Black History Month has roots in historian Carter G. Woodson's Negro History Week, which he designated in 1926 as the second week in February to mark the birthdays of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln.
Woodson said he hoped the week could one day be eliminated - when black history would become fundamental to American history.
Freeman notes there is no "white history month," and says the only way to get rid of racism is to "stop talking about it."
The actor says he believes the labels "black" and "white" are an obstacle to beating racism.
"I am going to stop calling you a white man and I'm going to ask you to stop calling me a black man," Freeman says.
Freeman received Oscar nominations for his roles in 1987's "Street Smart," 1989's "Driving Miss Daisy" and 1994's "The Shawshank Redemption." He finally won earlier this year for "Million Dollar Baby."

I wonder if it has ever dawned on Mr. Freeman that *precisely* the way that AA history will be integrated into all other American history is through awareness of AA history - which typically comes about during AA history month. It's a catch 22. Instead of getting rid of it, I propose extending it by a few more months - or make it two days a month of every month of the year - that way, it will draw the attention of everyone and then there might be some chance for full integration into American history.

Can't Say Names…
Sources say the soon-to-be ex-wife of a Hollywood talent-no, not the 'Nutty Professor'-is calling around town trying to get people to save her marriage. The estranged wife is pulling out the big guns too, using Bible scriptures, Christian views on divorce and an alleged terminal illness survival story to earn the sympathy of those she contacts. The husband had apparently decided to end his troubled marriage after meeting and falling in love with a popular Tinseltown comedic actress.
I think it's Denzel's wife.

Nope, Terrence Howard's wife is a Jehovah's Witness and is therefore christian.
ETA: Not sure if it is Denzel's wife either. He supposedly left his wife for Sanaa Lathan- she isn't a "comedic actress".

BV Buzz 12/19--News about Henry Simmons
Former 'N.Y.P.D. Blue' star Henry Simmons's rep told BV Buzz that accusations that her client is bi-sexual are false. "Henry is heterosexual and has a great career," said his publicist, Elizabeth Much. "When relationships end, they end! I'd rather be focusing on my client's career." Simmons' rep was responding to a report in MTV's Radio Feed, which cited an online blog as its source, and claimed Simmons' ex-girlfriend, 'America's Next Top Model' winner Eva Pigford, dumped him after discovering "he had the flavor for both male and female suitors."
The report even included an alleged quote from Pigford. "I'm just totally over it. It just hurts when you put your all into someone and they break your heart that way," Pigford reportedly said. Simmons and Pigford began dating in August and attended high-profile functions including 'Fashion Rocks' in New York City and the Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards in Los Angeles together. Pigford even raved about the relationship during a September appearance on 'The Tyra Banks Show.'
The two have apparently split in recent weeks, and Pigford attended her 21st birthday party on Nov. 29 in New York City with New York Jets player Kerry Rhodes. Prior to dating Pigford, Simmons was engaged to 'So You Think You Can Dance' host Lauren Sanchez and was reportedly courting TV host Rolonda Watts late last spring.
Pigford's publicist did not return our requests for comment.
Buzzworthy
The legendary Gladys Knight will release a not-yet-titled album for Verve Music Group in June 2006. Produced by Tommy LiPuma (Natalie Cole, Diana Krall) and Phil Ramone (Rod Stewart, Elton John), the disc will be Knight's first release on the Verve label. Knight was honored this year with the 2005 BET Lifetime Achievement Award at the BET Awards and released a gospel album called 'One Voice' with the Las Vegas-based Saints Unified Voices choir on her own Many Roads Records.
Lyfe Jennings, who was recently featured on the cover of Billboard magazine, has teamed up with Alicia Keys on a duet remake of the Curtis Mayfield classic "People Get Ready" for the soundtrack of Jerry Bruckheimer film 'Glory Road.' Jennings recently signed with MBK Entertainment, the management team that reps Keys.
Singer Cheryl Pepsii Riley is readying her first studio album in more 12 years. Riley, a protege of R&B group/production team Full Force, hasn't released an album since 1993's 'All That.' After years of dominating on the gospel play circuit, high-profile background stints with artists like Mary J. Blige, and appearing on soundtracks for films like 'Diary of a Mad Black Woman;' Riley has found enough time to prepare her forthcoming independent set, 'Let Me Be Me.' Though currently featured in Tyler Perry's play 'Madea Goes To Jail,' Riley will also play the lead in the Perry-produced and written play 'Why Did I Get Married,' which will play one show for DVD taping in early 2006.

Sources say a certain television actress is the mother of buying knockoff gifts during the holidays. Said Hollywood star visits the swap meets and bootleg districts in Los Angeles to purchase fake Gucci, Louis Vuitton and other designer bags and accessories, only to take them home and wrap them in boxes by the actual designers. The actress then mails the replicas to her relatives in the Caribbean and passes the bootleg gifts off as though they're the real deal.

I think it Morris' wife. Heard he's leaving her for Gaberille Union. We discussed this on the Fall 2K5 news before it was closed.

Congrats Gwen and Gavin
Report: Gwen Stefani pregnant
Tuesday, December 20, 2005; Posted: 2:17 p.m. EST (19:17 GMT)
NEW YORK (AP) -- Gwen Stefani, nominated for five Grammy Awards including album of the year for "Love.Angel.Music.Baby.," is pregnant with her first child, according to Us Weekly.
The 36-year-old pop star and Gavin Rossdale, 38, were married three years ago. The baby is due in June, the magazine reported Tuesday.
"We are delighted," Us Weekly quotes Rossdale's father, Douglas, as saying. Stefani's mother, Patti, also reportedly confirmed the pregnancy to the magazine.
An e-mail from The Associated Press to Stefani's representative wasn't immediately returned Tuesday.
Rossdale has a 16-year-old daughter, Daisy Lowe, from his relationship with fashion designer Pearl Lowe. He discovered he was the father in 2004 after taking a DNA test.
"Love.Angel.Music.Baby." is Stefani's first solo album. It includes one of the biggest songs of the year, "Hollaback Girl." That infectious single also earned Stefani a nomination for record of the year and best female pop vocal performance.
She is the lead singer of No Doubt and a budding fashion designer.
The British-born Rossdale fronted the rock band Bush, which released the popular 1994 album, "Sixteen Stone." They last released the 2001 album, "Golden State," as well as a greatest hits CD in November.
