why would I pay $1000 for someone else to pray for me??

It's funny to read about a pastor selling her prayers today when I was just reading an article about the Protestant reformation. It was all about how Martin Luther got the whole Protestant ball rolling because he was so disgusted by the Catholic church selling absolution of sins, Masses to get you out of Purgatory after you die, etc. Just goes to show that there's nothing new under the sun.

That's a really good point- purchasing pardons (indulgences I think they were called?) was a huge moneymaker for the church just a few centuries ago.

this was a great read, thanks for sharing, jitterbug13. this section:
Others, such as Tim Morgan, an editor at Christianity Today, see it as a more organizational problem — the absence of the kind of internal oversight common in mainline Protestantism and more recently in non-Pentecostal Evangelicalism. "Quite a few of these independent churches feel they are beholden to God alone,"
...speaks to why i'm not in enamored w/the non-denom. push in this country. a lack of checks and balances is a recipe for trouble, IMO....

Catch the Juanita B. special on BET when it airs again. Its an interesting take on everything that has gone on with her including the point where Weeks attacked her.

No problem. And I agree with you on this one. Some wonder why I'm hesitant to go to a non-denom. church and this is one of the reasons.

Just a question: Do you feel Non-denomination is a denomination?
To me, Non-Denom is not Baptist, COGIC, Methodist, etc. but it is a denomination.
Just curious to know y'alls views on the matter.

I agree with you. The church my mother attends is Non-Denomination a Cathedral something another. :smirk: They are their own entity, where their pastor/bishop and their governing body governs the operations of that church. They are not part of any associations/conventions.
BTW, did anyone see JB on BETs Exalted? It airs again Sunday @ Noon and Sunday night 9ET. Interesting to see her "transformation".

No, I do not.
Non-denomination is simply a church that does not adhere to specific rote religious practices for the sake of doing so. Nor are they accountable to a regional or national religious leadership for certain aspects of their church operations.
But no, it is not its own religion, nor is that its intention to be one.

This problem is not exclusive to non-denominational churches. In all cases it is a matter of following the rules that are established--religious decrees and operational rules.
And following a specific religious decree does not preclude some churches of that denomination from not following the FISCAL rules that create checks and balances.
