By the time I got to college, my parents had just finished paying off $6,000 worth of credit card debt themselves, so they told me all about college, credit cards, and how they try to lure you in with dumb stuff like free t-shirts.
I don't know how many sorority sisters and friends I have that are currently in credit card debt from undergrad. I certainly don't think credit cards themselves are bad, but I think people should be more responsible with them and not use them to survive on during college.
