Well, I COB'd but I did try formal recruitment and came up with some of the stupidest reasons for why I didn't care for one group or loved another. I had fun remembering how incredibly stupid my reasoning was back then.
Delta Zeta - I absolutely LOVED them because they had the prettiest house at Long Beach, their jewel is the diamond and I thought I deserved to wear diamonds b/c IMO (back then), diamonds were teh ONLY jewelry worth wearing, and they have the Roman Lamp as an emblem. To make it worse, the DZ's wore these adorable shirts fashioned with cute sparkly "diamonds" to make one big diamond and I had to have one of those shirts!
Alpha Phi - I didn't care for them because their house was yellow and not as big as the DZ house and on Day 1, they wore these yellow shirts. I hate yellow. I was incredibly stupid as well!
Delta Delta Delta - I loved their colors, the trident, and I loved the recruitment shirts they wore.
Sigma Kappa - Very edgy and different. Their house was the smallest in size but I do look good in lavender and maroon. For some stupid reason, I used to think that sorority girls ALWAYS wore their sorority colors in their outfits.
Gamma Phi Beta - Some girls I knew (who were the IT girls) swore up and down that this was THE sorority to be in so I believed them.
Delta Gamma - I knew right away I could never be a DG b/c they seemed to have many of their activities revolve around water and I hated the way I looked in a bathing suit so I knew I could never be one.
Alpha Omicron Pi - Big house and they had a red rose. How could I not want to live in a big house and have red roses around me everyday? Duh!

I knew it! I had heard rumors about this being ritual but now it's somewhat confirmed!

Hahahaha....I also went to Long Beach.
I didn't even bother with Alpha Phi during COB because there were too many PNMs in front of the table and I literally couldn't get in to see.
I originally passed on Gamma Phi because I too got the impression they were they "it" girls and that I'd never fit in.
I cut Delta Gamma because I didn't care for the sailor girl hats and nautical theme.

I remember wanting to cut AXiD because the chapter was too small at the time (I thought bigger was better) but then I thought I didn't like the colors of Chi-O so I would have cut them also. I really liked A-Phi's colors but I liked ZTA's philanthropy better (finally, a smart moment) and ended up a ZTA. Shall I post my recruitment story on that thread...?

O.K. What year did you rush because they had the same theme the year I went through, the year my Big went through, and the year my lil went through.

(Psst, they had a nautical theme at my campus too.)
I cut DG after skit night not only because I liked the other two better, but because I didn't "get" their skit. It was maybe Love Boaty. But mostly they featured Pat.. you know the androgynous office worker from SNL? I didn't get it at all.

Well, you know DG's badge and symbol is an anchor, so the nautical theme kind of lends itself. And "Pat," the SNL character, was created and played by Julia Sweeney, who is a Delta Gamma.

Oh yeah, it makes sense to have a nautical theme, and that it just didn't speak to me shows how much I'm not a DG But I didn't know that Julia Sweeney's a DG! And I just didn't get the joke.

Hey, it's OK! I always like to compare the reason there are different sororities to the same reason there are different churches~!

I didn't mean for it to sound bitchy or mean when I asked about the theme. The whole nautical thing made sense once I knew that their symbol was an anchor but when we went through recruitment, we didn't know that because the pamphlet we were given on each chapter just gave name, founding date, founding date at Long Beach, a picture of the house, the name of the President, and their philanthropy. I didn't get the nautical thing until later.

You know...AST's symbol is an anchor, too, and we don't really do the nautical thing. So maybe it's got nothing to do with that.

LOL! Yeah, I know both Liz and Kelly. We could have run into each other b/c I was there when they were.
