Rose Red is a book (and miniseries - http://abc.abcnews.go.com/primetime/movies/rosered/) about a possessed house. Rose Red is the name of the house. Here is the truncated story. There is this paranormal psychology professor who is trying to prove herself. Her department head thinks that paranormal psychology is a bunch of hogwash and is trying to get her kicked off of the faculty. The professor is obsessed with Rose Red and its stories.

Rimbauer built Rose Red at the turn of the 20th century as a wedding present for his new wife. There were "accidents" that claimed the lives of several workers during construction. After it was complete, the house began to "like" the women but hate men. The women disappeared but the men always seemed to die. Mrs. Rimbauer held a séance. The medium told her that she would live only as long as the house was under construction. Work continued on the house Mrs. Rimbauer's death but the continued to grow. Then one day it all stopped.

The professor thought that the house had become a dead cell and wanted to conduct experiments. She gathered an assortment of extra-sensory people to spend the weekend and wake up the house.

Overall it was pretty good. I found that it was a combination of the Amityville Horror (www.amityvillemurders.com) and the Winchester house legend (www.winchestermysteryhouse.com). It was filmed at Thornewood Castle (www.thornewoodcastle.com).
