Is that for the year or 6 months? Either way sounds like a great deal from GEICO who can usually be the most expensive behind Progressive.

2005 Honda Civic VP (that means value package ppl lol) its standard, cd player, and air conditioning... roll down windows, manual locks, nothing fancy (but the stereo is actually pretty good and it's a beast and I get 40 miles to a gallon)
I pay $250 a month, but usually there are late fees because I never have the money to pay it on time.
My insurance is like $250/ month.

$50 a month for liability-only is cheap in some cases, but the OP didn't say that's what her quote was for. It all depends on... - Where she lives
- What her driving record's like
- What kind of coverage she's getting
- Whether she has proof of prior (constant) coverage
Believe it or not that last one, even if you haven't owned a car before, makes a huge difference. It's just another excuse to gouge you because they can, but apparently people who haven't had constant car insurance are a higher risk, so most companies will charge more.

Wow...mine's only $50/month for full coverage. I also don't have anything left on my record. My only incidents have been an accident at 16 (not my fault) and a speeding ticket at 17. KNOCK.ON.WOOD.
I have a 2004 Chevy Tracker. My payments are about $235/month.

I lease a 2007 Saturn Vue. My payment is $249/month. I can't recall what the insurance is per month.

I drive a Toyota Highlander for $531/month - car payment only. That's because I traded in a 2005 Yukon that I was upside down in because the resale value of those stupid things has dropped so much. My car insurance (which covers two vehicles + homeowner's insurance) is $197 a month...for my individual vehicle it's about $65 a month.

live in NYC (well, Westchester, so NYS)
no driving record (first car, licensed a little under a year)
i believe it is full coverage iwas quoted for (i checked off every box except rental reimbursement)
had no need for prior coverage since it's my first time ive needed coverage
with all that said, i figured insurance would be expensive. but i'm not sure what "expensive" would be. and its an old car, so i thought that would balance it out. i dunno...

Try Progressive and esurance. They both quote other companies for you as well.
I think the biggest strike against you is that you've had your license less than a year, so they kind of see you like a 16 year old.
My insurance is only affordable because I'm female, married, have a clean record, have been driving for 8 years, and have a multi-car discount.
Could you possibly check with your mom's insurance (if she drives) to see if you could get on with her for a multi-car discount?

mom doesnt drive. aunt uses her friend's insurance in Buffalo. dont think my landlord would put me on their insurance...
however, apparently SGRho has a partnership with StateFarm, so i'll follow up tomorrow. and i'll check out Progressive.
