What do you pay a month in car payments?

In the spirit of the rent/mortgage threads, I wanted to see how I'm doing compared to other people in terms of car payments.

I bought a brand new 2004 Toyota Corolla S in June, and I'm paying $257/month (including gap insurance). My car is beautiful, red, but the only extra I got on it was the upgraded sound system. It's the one on the commercial where the guys are fighting over who gets to ride in it.

I'd just be curious to see what other people are paying for their cars (those that are still making payments, of course).

Nothing. My car's been paid off for a couple years.

However, when I did have the payment, it was around $284/monthly. I have a 1997 Saturn SC1.

Oh, my gosh. It must just be the city I'm in, but my insurance is HIGH compared to most other people's, and I pay $90/month. And THAT's because I have a speeding ticket and rear-ended people. Otherwise, it probably would be around $30. Most people around here pay what y'all are paying for 6 months.

ETA: I was looking at a Maxima before I had to buy my Corolla quickly. I was actually looking at the Maxima and the Celica (I know, way different cars), but I didn't have time enough to save up a down payment... I didn't realize monthly payments on the Maxima were that high! I guess this is partially why I wanted to start this thread, though... I wouldn't trade my Corolla for anything in the world (well, maybe a Mercedes), but it's nice to know that my car payments help me like my decision.

Ok so I think my parents lied to me...

I don't have car payments b/c we jsut wrote a check for the full amount at the time of buying it...but my mom is trying to tell me that b/c of my new car my insurance is $3000/year, up from $1500 before. How is that possible when everyone else's insurance is in the hundreds of dollars? Or am I just completely stupid and that's a monthly payment for you guys? I am confused.
