I knew I was in love with a sorry MF when I broke up with him and cried daily afterwards. How the heck you have a degree, but you stopped working in your field to work three dead beat jobs because you were bored? Since then, I've been in love with myself.

There wasn't any one thing...it's the sum total of how this man treats me that made me know it's real.

1. My 40 y/o cousin died of a massive heart attack and I was in graduate school nearly 2000 miles away from home. Family was calling crying and the only person I could lean on was my man. When I walked through the door, he grabbed me, led me to the couch and just held me. And he told my family that they needed to give me a break from all the drama concerning the funeral, my cousin's cheating wife, etc.

2. I got a terrible case of gastritis (probably related to my cousin's sudden death) and let loose (sharted is the actually term) in the bed. I was so embarassed but he cleaned up everything and took me to doctor and never mentioned that incident again.

3. When he handed me keys to his house and his car without blinking or hesitating. And this man is crazy about that car

4. When he met my entire dysfunctional family and won them over by just being himself.

5. When he tells me I'm beautiful on my worse days, for dispensing tough love when I am procrastinating and for protecting me from dysfunctional family members and friends who resent the fact that I found love, got my education and a career that I enjoy.

I've only been in love one time. That was a big let down. I should have listened to my friends about her, but I learned the hard way. I was really hurt by that one. I guess it was for the best though. I don't think I could love a woman like that again.

Loving my friend

I knew that I was in love when, for the gazillionth time, my friend from Charlotte (1 1/2 hours away) would call me and say, "I'm on my way to pick you up; be ready". Now ladies, hear me when I say this: I would be BLEEDING LIKE I'D JUST BEEN SLASHED TO DEATH and CRAMPING LIKE A WOMAN IN LABOR, but would GET UP, SHOWER, TAKE THE NECESSARY DRUGS...and go out wherever he planned to take me...which was usually a cool Korean restaurant (my favorite) or whatever I wanted to do. He later told me that he just wanted me to have a good day in spite of my pain (I have endometriosis, so my monthly cycles can be deadly...for everyone in the vacinity).

And we weren't really even dating. He was simply MY FRIEND.

I married him on May 27, 2006. Life is gorgeous and my cramps haven't been so bad...(smile)
