This quote stands out in my mind.

At the end of the day, we do have to remember that no matter how stellar your daughter/sister/whomever is, going through recruitment does not guarantee a bid.

MerryGPhiB -- They are both headed to Virginia Tech -- one a junior in a sorority and the other a freshman who at this point could care less about joining a greek organization of any sort. Right now she is scared to death and sad about leaving behind all her high school friends -- and that I am constantly harping on her to PACK because we are leaving Tuesday!! Have a saft flight!!

so, so, so sorry for the delay.....

I have to tell you I just love the idea that so many strangers are routing for my daughter. You guys are the best! So, with no further ado......

Good news from Kate.....

She is going back to 3 houses for pref. She will be returning to:

Austria
Ireland
Monacco

Austria and Ireland are long time favorites of hers and Monacco has made a very strong showing in the last two days and she likes them also.

I am thrilled for her and for WarEagle07's Daughter. She is going to call me after she finishes her parties and I will update at that time.

Thanks AuburnMom

I am excited for Kate and eager to find out which country she lands in! I won't be able to post until tomorrow evening but I will let you know where my own daughter lands!

After several very emotional and trying phone calls today....I have an update.

My sister was invited back to 3 parties today and let me be very clear this time - I KNOW this is wonderful and a spot that many women wish they were in. One of the 3 was Sorority B, which is good, but for some unexplained reason, best friend decided at the last minute she was going just drop out!!! Just when I think things have gotten easier, they make a complete 180. I know one thing, I'm as ready for this to be over as my sister is. I think my sister was ok until best friend dropped out unexpectedly and then she just really freaked out and now is just ready for this to be over.

She went to 1 party this morning and has 2 this afternoon. The last being B. According to her, she's completely made up her mind that she is NOT accepting a bid from any group. Obviously, I told her I didn't think there was any need for her to waste her time going any parties today if she had already made up her mind, but this began a partially "insane rant" on her part. LOL I really believe the heat and the stress has finally gotten to her b/c at one point she told me that the truth was, she was only going b/c she was hungry and they have pettifores!!!! I wasn't expecting that one for sure. Honestly, I think she is really just at a meltdown point now. I feel so sorry for her.

I feel like I just can win, though. When I told her earlier that it was perfectly fine if she chose not to pledge, she said she was worried about not being able to participate in some campus activities w/o a sorority behind her, i.e. sga, tiger hostesses, etc if she didn't pledge. I thought this meant she wanted to pledge, but was maybe on the fence about Sorority B. So, being the helpful (crazy/pressuring) big sister I am, I make a few calls and talk to some of my friends about B and get some good reports that I **thought** would make her decision easier or help in some way.....oh how I was soooo wrong. Apparently, this call was NOT to help, but to "pressure her" when I had just told her it was fine with me whatever her decision was and it was her's to make.

At this point, there will be NO further calls from this big sister and whatever will happen will happen. I will really be happy for her no matter what she decides. I'm just ready for this to be over.

mom - i think you really have what you truly believe are your daughter's best interests at heart, but there is no point in second guessing things that happened this past week, especially with her. she has been through enough, trust me. like i said earlier, i don't think its fair to sugarcoat things when you are already obviously confused about what has been happening and the way rush works. i could tell you a million things that would probably help to clear things up a little about the "selection" process at auburn, but this story may be one of the best - a girl was dropped by a certain sorority who's sister was was an active sister in the sorority at the time. now, if that doesn't tell you that your daughter could have done everything she was supposed to, looked great, had great conversations, and STILL been dropped by everyone, then i don't know what will. the bottom line that no one is really willing to say is - for the most part, it's all about who you know and the power that person/persons has w/in the sorority at that time. this is what makes it so hard on EVERYONE this week, the girls and family members. of course, there are exceptions to this, but i'll be the bad guy and just cut through all the bs and tell you the truth.

Auburn mom,

Those are some amazing results, and your daughter is in a wonderful position to join a group. I can't wait to hear the final outcome!

Aww it sounds like she is definitly very very stressed out. I think you are wise to back off and see what comes up tomorrow. I really think the stress, sleep deprevation and week as a whole has gotten to your sister. Keep your chin up and we will all hope for the best tomorrow!

AuburnMom.....feel free to post the rest of your daughters story we really want to hear it. It is not that you are rubbing it in the other peoples face, but this is the thread you started about your daughters rush!

If someone wants to post a rush story......Please start another thread or find one where it is appropriate.

Thanks

I know I am not a mod, but if someone does not get in a sorority their life is not over!!
