I have a tattoo of a violet, my sorority flower. It's on my lower back where I can conceal it if I want, and show it if I want. It's my way of having a permanent reminder of my lifetime commitment. I don't have letters, or a crest, and I've seen both a lot (yes, mostly on guys). I think that it's beautiful, and very tasteful without being blatent. People usually have to ask if it means anything, so it's personal too.
I know of a sister who got a very small violet and our letters tattooed on her ankle, but it's very small, and on the inside, so you can't see it all the time..
But I live in a college town so the tattoo place gets a lot of greek requests and people asking for the WSU logo (looks like the letters WSU in the form of a roaring cougar.. very cool). Everyone would take a picture of their tattoo and put it on her wall, so all the walls and ceilings are covering in people and their tattoos.. it's a good way to get some ideas..
