I joined to see what it was about. It named me a chapter Officer, because I'm the first there from my chapter, but says that my chapter is locked because an Officer has to approve me. So I have to approve myself, but I can't get in to approve myself because it's locked until I approve myself.

The admin of the site will approve you soon. That's what happened to me, and now i'm in charge of approving everyone until i change it lol

here's a response i got from Justin, the guy who runs the site:

Hi tld221,

We would like to verify your SororityLive account and give you access to the system. However, we were unable to confirm you at NYU. What is the name of your chapter and can you provide any information to prove you are a Sigma Gamma Rho? (eg. a picture of you with letters on, etc.)

Sorry for the inconvenience, but we are trying to keep the site free of phony accounts.

To which i responded:

My chapter (Alpha Pi) covers the NYC metropolitan area, not a particular college campus. Members of the past have included many of the CUNY colleges (Baruch, Hunter, Lehman, Brooklyn College, Medgar Evers, etc.) and some private schools such as Pace U, Berkeley College, Columbia U, and NYU, where i attended. So I doubt you will get any "confirmation" that i am a part of Alpha Pi from a school site or anything.

As for info to prove i'm an SGRho, well, that's limited to members of my organization. I'm sure you understand. and I dont know if a pic of me wearing letters actually verifies me being a member - anyone can buy letters and wear them. Do you have other members of my organization registered on your site? What has been their validation?

Take that as you will. I can imagine that your site has a NPC/NIC/IFC focus, but I don't think you will get any "proof" from an MCGLO or NPHC organization. There's gotta be a better way. Perhaps the member in charge of each organization can have a validation question for other members who sign up?

I understand your need to keep the site free of perps and trolls, but i hardly fall in either category. Your call.

At first glance Fraternity/SororityLive seems somewhat redundant. The social features are already implemented well enough in Facebook that it isn't worth using for that aspect. The chapter management stuff looks interesting, but I'm not sure if they are worth the trouble of getting everyone to start using them.

Just for kicks, I registered. Said I was an alumna of the chapter, but it didn't hold my initiation or graduation years. We'll see.

My chapter's being verified to see if it exists. LOL

ETA: I was just approved (4:30ish). tld, the issue may be that your chapter not tied to a particular school. *shrug*

hmm - good point. it asked me for a school and chapter. i guess i'll put my graduate chapter.

I was not asked to verify anything. Eventhough they can not verify with only a picture as they asked tld for, but still.

I suggest everyone use this with caution, I am no perp, but I signed up and was approved with out a second guess.
