I don't see what the big deal is. The show is MUCH better than I thought it would be.
Besides, this show won't last more than 2 seasons, if that much. How many more storylines can they think of that are "greek" before they rehash?

Tri Delta's response to the new TV series "GREEK."
GREEK TV Series - July 9
Tri Delta's response to ABC Family's new show, "GREEK."
Since early this year, we have been in close contact with entertainment reporters and producers of the upcoming "GREEK" series, and have offered Tri Delta as a resource for future story lines and segment plots that are more positive and representative of the Tri Delta sorority experience. We know that many of you have seen promotional trailers for the series, have visited the "Virtual Rush" show Web site, or have heard about the show through word-of-mouth. As a proactive organization, Tri Delta Executive Office staff and our PR firm are closely monitoring the marketing of the show and will track the topics covered in each episode, and are prepared and ready to respond as necessary.

GREEK TV Series - July 10
Fraternity President Michelle Shimberg shares her thoughts on the pilot episode of "GREEK."
After viewing the pilot episode of “Greek”, Fraternity President Michelle Shimberg shared brief thoughts with members of the press. An experpt is included below.
"'Greek' may make for good TV, but it's a far cry from reality for the vast majority of our members. Women who participate in that kind of superficial and 'mean girl' behavior are totally missing out on the true sorority experience."
Tri Delta’s Executive Office staff and PR firm will continue to monitor show plotlines and promotion.

I think that is awesome! What I always notice is how Greeks always go on the defensive when Greek life is highlighted by non-Greeks. We have gotten defensive about t.v shows, books, mere references to greek life all worried about how they will give us a bad. We're so concerened about how non-Greeks are going to respond we take a defensive role and allow them to dictate to us how we should be the result...we are too politically correct and are almost absurd as how far the defintion of hazing has gotten.
I think rather than taking a defensive role and allowing others to define us we should be taking more of a proactive role to define ourselves. Why haven't we written our own fiction and non-fiction books for the best-sellers list. why haven't our orgs gotten together collectively to come up with our own television show. Rather than blocking what could be good publicity we should be helping those who are interested in Greek life. If we're going to be talked about we may as well be dictating the dialogue. However, I do not think we should completely run away from the sterotypes...like it or not most often there is a slight bit of truth in those sterotypes. why lie and act like we don't party..we can control the diaglogue and show where the sterotype has gone a little too far and show what else we do rather than get defensive and block all dialgue on Greek Life. They aren't going to understand us if we don't share with them.

I definitely agree. There's a lot of bitching and moaning going on in some of the LJ communities I read (including the AGD one) and I just don't understand why people are making such a big deal about it.
You're right on about the 2 seasons. I watch ABC Family all the time and I can't think of any ABC Family Original Series that lasted more than 2 or 3 seasons.
The show isn't that bad. I see worse in collegian Facebook and MySpace profiles.

How long has Kyle XY been around? I've watched a couple of episodes because Kyle is really cute, but as a show, I can't seem to get into it at all.

Kyle XY's received a huge following, but like you, I can't get into it at all, either. I know a lot of people were pissed when GREEK took over the Friday night encore slot on ABC.

I honestly don't know why you would want to petition this show. Sure it is a little stereotypical but who or what doesn't have a stereotype today? I really enjoy watching this show and I am personally glad they are doing it. I don’t really agree with the hazing part of the show, but I can't stop them from putting it in there. Yeah, there are chapters somewhere that proly still do haze. I know a lot of the fraternities on my campus do, but as for my sorority we don’t and wont. We would get into so much trouble not only from national's but from PHC as well. Our reputation would also be tainted as well. Other than the whole hazing thing I love the show and watch it now every monday.

I watched a re-airing and, while I don't plan to tune in regularly, I didn't think it was a bad show. The show portrayed things that do actually happen (admittedly not to everyone but its drama/tv), and I was pleasantly suprised by the correct use of terminology. Its not the evil that some of the responses would portray it to be...and like everyone said, its not good enough to last too long.

Is it bad that I really don't care if this show exists or not? This show won't change the good things Greeks do, nor the stupid things that college students do. It's not going to encourage positive or negative behavior or stereotypes any more than normal... and if it brings more people out to recruitment, that's a good thing. They'll get an idea of what it's really all about then.
ABC Family is like Lifetime-- there aren't any "Must Watch" programs airing... it's something you watch when you are flipping channels and nothing else is on.

I could see them giving it a little extra "life" just because of their online forums...if the fourms stay popular, they'll continue the show past it's prime.

as an alum, I agree. Things were exaggerated, but that's TV. I've never seen a show focused on high school or college that was accurate, since they all seem over the top.
However, I think some of the spirit is there. I'm not happy with the portrayal of alot of the sorority girls as backstabbers, but nothing is perfect.
I full admit i'm sort of addicted to the show
