Being analyzed is a GC hazard...! Think of how JK Rowling must feel with her works being over thought....I am truly enjoying your wit in reporting your adventures...and beg you PLEASE to continue.

I think it's along the lines of nitpicking something intended for entertainment. Or at least that's how I'm seeing it.

I lurk a lot as well and rarely post - but please please please continue! It never crossed my mind that this was fake. It actually sounds very typical of "Rush" in the late 70's, 80's - specifically at competitive schools.

Well, it had to be recently enough for colored contacts to be widely available, so that rules out the 70s. (I think colored contacts started publicly in the late 80s or so though...I know I started wearing regular contacts in 1990ish, and if I recall correctly colored lenses were an option then.)
Honestly, I think that tidbit was the detail that surprised me the most...after reading all the SEC rush warnings, nothing anyone could say about rush outfits would surprise me. But, the idea that people might actually change up the color of their eyes from day to day sounded so to me...that thought never even occurred to me!

Recruitment,
Please continue--whatever else has been said, it's abundantly clear everyone here is hooked! For those of us Northerners (or anyone who experienced a less competitive rush), it's fascinating to hear about a different experience.
Also, I know you emphasized discretion (re your mother's identity, understandably) but some hints about the geographic location of the school and the time period might stave off some of the critics. Just a thought. Either way, I'd love to hear more!

I'll also request an update! I, too, found myself trying to guess where Recruitment and Sydney went to school using her clues. I was thinking that the twist was going to be that it was Barbara and Jenna Bush (I know - they aren't identical, blonde, petite, etc.). But still, it was very interesting reading, and I hope to get to see more. I didn't ever think it was fake, but a teeny tiny part of me was afraid that she was going to say, "And to hear what happened on Bid Day, buy my book. Here's a link to amazon!" But that's just cause I'm in the publishing business.
Seriously, recruitment, I'm loving your story and your intricate details. I took away from your descriptions of smaller chapters that you are gracious and able to find positive things to say about everyone.

Let's make a pact:
In the future, even if we suspect something is unrealistic and snobby and/or so closely aligned with young adult literature from the 1980s that we think it might be fictional, if it is also highly entertaining as I think this one was, let's keep our public comments to ourselves until the whole thing is posted.
It's too easy to punish us by depriving us of ever knowing what the "other thing" really was or what one wears to later parties if you wear a pink beaded dress with matching pantyhose to first round. And let me tell you, I really want to know.
