I spoke the the executive/frat last night in regards to the interview. I was advised that I was obviously very competitive for the position. However, his hands were tied by his boss who basically instructed him to hire the individual who was hired based on ties with the indiviual's father in the department. I've moved on to plan B, but I would have appreciated this information prior to the interview. I would not have wasted my time and their time. The truth hurts.

This ship has sailed. I'm on to my next career move.

Frat,

Welcome to the real world. It has taken me several years to develop "thick skin." People that you consider your friend will turn on you to make themselves look good. I left a position where I worked for more than twelve years only to learn the director is now running me down at every turn. Prior to my leaving, we ate lunch, hung out on the weekends, visited each others home, etc. We had each others back so I thought. To this day I have no understanding why she has started a personal attack. I have taken pictures down in my current office of my old staff, put away awards received as a result of the job and have nothing to do with my old office. To that end, accept that the position you wanted may not have been what God wanted you to have. Keep moving forward and let no man destroy your self fulfillment.
"What God has for you . . . It is for you."

I should have read to the end of the thread before posting!

Please know that this happens much more often than you can imagine. ALWAYS have a Plan B from the beginning.

BTW, ethically and probably legally speaking, he could NOT have given that info to you prior to the interview.

First, I find it very hard to believe that any hiring manager would say such a thing.

Second, you have a warped sense of brotherhood. Simply being a member of a GLO should not supercede the experience, potential, and skills of other applicants. Is this your first job?

Yes the truth hurts, yet you act as if you haven't learned anything at all. There's a real world out there and nothing should be granted for, especially assuming that because you're a part of a GLO that you're going to be handed a job. I wish you luck on your next job interview!

I'm still confused as to why someone would put their whole career on the back of a member of their organization, and on top of that, place their organization in the "maybe" column if given the job???? I have been hired by Sorors and other sistergreeks and not hired by them; however, AKA has nothing to do with me being a teacher. My sorority is seperate from my job and quite frankly, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. owes me nothing. It's my responsibility to do what I vowed to do in my ritual, not get mad at a Soror and my sorority because she didn't hire me. Better luck next time.

Amen. We can't expect to all of sudden be placed into the best positions, but it is our responsibility in LIFE to make good decisions and to try to maximize on good opportunities.

It's not exactly the same, but this whole thing reminds me that one episode of Punk'd when Brandy and Ray J get caught with "stolen diamonds" in their car and Brandy tells the black policeman "Come on, brotha, you've seen us on TV; you know we're good kids. You should have our backs more than this!"

Wow, I haven't been here in over a year and decided today to check in and see what the Brotherhood here was talking about. I know I'm late on this discussion, but Brother you need to take a look at the title of your thread.

The original advice the Brother gave you should be taken as a lesson that may be used in future interviews. As you've found out, his hand was forced. In the meantime, you have referred to that Brother as a spy and topped it off by insulting the rest of the Brotherhood by pouting and threatening to walk.

If you want to walk, do your thing. Know that the Brothers will continue walking onward and upward without you. If you're staying, YOU have to be more fraternal. You at least owe that Brother an apology for doubting his integrity.
