At most schools recruitment is held in the fall. Deferred recruitment=formal recruitment that is held later in the school year.
You should call the Office of Greek Life at your school and talk to current students to get a feel for the culture of recruitment. I would largely ignore the suggestions on this web site that advise getting recommendations and warning that juniors will have a harder time. This isn't as much the case at the vast majority of CA schools, and esp. those with Greek systems that are smaller like at your school.
No matter where you go to school, you should have decent grades, activities and the ability to hold a conversation-- and in your case, just keep be open to all of the sororities offered at your school and likely you will probably enjoy recruitment and have a chance to join.
