Recruitment @ CSUSM
Hello Everybody,
I'm starting at Cal State San Marcos in the fall as a junior and I am contemplating going through recruitment activities. I was wondering if anyone in this forum has participated in recruitment at CSUSM. I know the school is small and relatively new compared to other CSU schools & they have only 2 sororities on campus. So I was wondering what the process is like there, and what Greek life in general is like on campus. Thanks! :o |
Greek life there is fairly new, and the chapters there have about 30 girls each. Recruitment is actually in February there. From what I know of, they are pretty open to upperclassmen there.
Here's a link to recruitment info (registration, etc): http://www.csusm.edu/sll/greek/recruitment_rush.htm |
On the individual sites for each sorority, they say they have "deferred recruitment" in the fall for students with 12+ units. Is this different than formal recruitment? I'm not completely clear on the differences between the 2.

It is different in the way that it is structured. I'd contact the Greek Life office for specifics on the way it works, because upperclassmen recruitment works differently at every school. . |
At most schools recruitment is held in the fall. Deferred recruitment=formal recruitment that is held later in the school year.
You should call the Office of Greek Life at your school and talk to current students to get a feel for the culture of recruitment. I would largely ignore the suggestions on this web site that advise getting recommendations and warning that juniors will have a harder time. This isn't as much the case at the vast majority of CA schools, and esp. those with Greek systems that are smaller like at your school. No matter where you go to school, you should have decent grades, activities and the ability to hold a conversation-- and in your case, just keep be open to all of the sororities offered at your school and likely you will probably enjoy recruitment and have a chance to join. |
Here is the full comment on the website:
All students must complete 12 college units prior to going through recruitment/rush. Transfer students and students with AP credits, we would love to see you in the Fall. First-year students, come check us out in the Spring! Interesting that they count AP credits........ This means formal is in the Spring and the Fall is mainly for upperclassmen and is informal. My alma mater does the same thing and all 4 of the sororities participate in informal. |
