Recruitment Shopping
What stores would y'all recommend for PNMs to shop at for recruitment parties?

Where are you recruiting? That would be helpful, since different areas are more casual and some more formal. And there are a dozen or so threads on this. Search

My two cents:
1. Take into account your campus culture. Take into account what YOU want. If designer labels are important to the chapters you are interested in, buy them. If you are interested in a chapter that focuses on other things, don't waste your money.
2. When in doubt, go classic. Trendy stuff often looks cheap, fits badly, and isn't appropriate.
3. Make sure everything fits. It should not look similar to shrink rap, but you shouldn't be pulling up your pants or your top constantly, either.
4. Don't go buy a bunch of new stuff just because it's new. If you have a fabulous dress from 9th grade that you are comfortable in and feel good in, wear it.
5. Girls don't care to see your cleavage. Or up your skirt. You aren't rushing for a bid from a bunch of guys.
6. If you aren't comfortable, you will act nervous and irritable. If you act nervous and irritable, it will throw off your interaction with your rusher. If you throw off your interaction with your rusher, she might not give glowing recommendations. Especially if there are 800 of you going through that night, and you were the 400th most friendly.
7. Brush your teeth. Brush your hair. Don't spend 8 hours on your make up.

Your advice made a lot of sense. I know I spent over a $1000 dollars on everything and it totally wasn't worth it. As much as I thought it would give me confidence a bigger boost, I think only a couple new pieces for the last two rounds would have been just fine. I think my budget this year will be less than three hundred for everything. My mom will be so much happier lol

Wow.
My advice to PNMs about clothes:
*Make sure you are comfortable. Discomfort is not a good look. Don't wear anything that you will constantly be fidgeting with.
*New does not equal better. If you don't OWN a sundress, then go buy a new one. But if you already have one that you like, it's just not necessary.

clothes that you have had for a while will be new to everyone you meet at college(assuming you are a new student).
if you feel inclined to wear a strapless dress, please PLEASE, walk around for at least 5 or 10 minutes in the dress-if you find yourself hoisting it up constantly, do not wear it to a recruitment party(or anywhere for that matter!). it is extremely unattractive to be constantly adjusting yourself just to be a slave to fashion.

Going with the "don't wear anything that you are uncomfortable in" that both KSUViolet and AGDSquirrelGirl (and FSUZeta) rightly mention, if you don't already own a sundress AND your campus really does suggest other possible outfits for that round, find out from members on that campus if you can appropriately wear something else more like what you would usually wear to a similarly dressy event.
Although you want to be appropriately dressed for your campus, there's probably a lot less of a sorority girl costume that everyone will be wearing than you might imagine. If you can figure out a way to wear appropriate clothes that you already feel comfortable in and know look good, why risk a certain kind of outfit you feel weird in? And I completely second FSUZeta's comment on the strapless deal.

well I told my mom that number not thinking she would go for it, but she said ok. With that money though I also bought a couple of new shirts, pants/jeans, and some shoes for school and recruitment. This year I am not getting anything I can't wear over again and my pref dress is being taken in. It comes in handy when your grandmother is a professional seamstress.
But being the "bright" person I am found an adorable pair of shoes on this shopping trip. They were platform sandals with really cute beading on top and had teal beads that matched my shirt for the first round. I had worn them a couple times before recruitment, but never as long as that day. By the end of the day, those cute beads had cut into my feet and for the second day I had big scabs on my feet. I was thinking though and brought comfy flip flops to wear between houses or I don't think I could have made it through the day. Thank god that my sandals for the second day covered them up and I coming to my senses wore some cute Reef flipflops that were comfortable and I got compliments on them.
I will say this too...Our Rho Gammas had told us not to bring anything that wouldn't fit into a small sandwich bag because they wouldn't be responsible for it. I didn't listen and thank god I didn't. I packed a bag with my shoes, an umbrella, makeup to touch up, mirror, brush, breathmints(I read the advice on gum making your breath actually stink worse),water, granola bar, and a tide pen (which came in handy when one of the girls dropped a strawberry on herself and we got most of it out...I guess it was a good thing because she went ZTA anyway I cannot tell you how many girls asked to borrow my mirror and try to touch themselves up. The next day I definitely saw more people doing it. I only brought stuff that I didn't care if it got stolen and I wouldn't be lost without it.

LILLY PULITZER SUNDRESSES
OK, i was shocked at how the girls did not follow the dress rules during recruitment on the first "GO Greek Round" day. But then I started remembering that I think we did the same thing. My daughter did not have tons of sundresses so we went to purchase several Lilly Pulitzer sundresses...you know the pink and green ones. You can buy them in TN at Parisians or Belks. They might be on sale now since the summer season is going out and the fall season coming in. They are VERY expensive but at UTK the dress seemed to be very much on the dressier side and Pref night has not even happened. Less is more when it comes to jewelry and if you or your daughter do not have a pearl necklace I recommend buying a nice knockoff. She can always get much wear out of it. Just a recommendation that I wish someone would have told me sooner. I bought them on the very end of our shopping before I knew any better.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL PNM's and their nervous mommies!!!
