west, midwest...same difference..haha im just from the east coast so thats west for me(illinois).

How do you find out about alumnea(sp?) groups? What kind of things do they do? Does it act the same way as the other sororities on campus? we have agirl in ours who was a transfer, and we accepted her. i dont know what the process for that was. I think all it is paper work.

my mom actually talked to a girl that she works with who is in a sorority and asked her about changing to a new one. and she said that all you do is turn in ur pin and stop giving dues to that particular sorority. maybe thats an old rule or something.

people are right many schools do have Communications, but it ends up just being journalism or like interpersonal communications..stuff like that. my path is geered for like MEDIA studies.. media relatons, which is like the study of film, working at a tv station, stuff like that. because I cant write as you can probably tell, i need something more hands-on in that field, more on the technical side. I mean at my school i'm not sure for others, we have like 6 comm classes that open each semester & only one time is offered for that class. we have 15-25 spots in them. and only certain classes are offered every so many years, so if you dont get into ur basically screwed. but its just notin my major, its the whole school practically..people seriously think its because the school wants your money so they try and keep you there longer.

YOU CANNOT JOIN ANOTHER NPC IF YOU HAVE ALREADY BEEN INITAITED, REGARDLESS HOW CRAPPY A MEMBER YOU ARE TO YOUR FIRST SORORITY AND WHETHER OR NOT YOU TURN IN YOUR PIN.

PS WEST and MIDWEST are NOT the same thing.

No, that'd be me. I'm in Hawaii -- so I'm the one in Asia.

Lilxcutie88, KSUViolet06 gave you your options. I'd listen to her and not what your mom's friend's daughter's roommate's 2nd cousin said.

the lady was in a sorority and did just that..turned her pin in and switched. thats why i am guessing that probably the rules have changed.

how do you start a new chapter at the school? maybe i could do that....

Please don't.

Also, REE1993 -- just because someone has a learning disability does not give her carte blanche to cop an attitude with people who are trying their best to be patient with her. She's been given great advice and has been steered into the right direction, but apparently that's not good enough for her.

no no she told me that i'm writing like a 12 yr b/c of my grammar skills and she was making fun of the major that i have chosen Communications.
I got really really really offended by that.
my learning disbalility has nothing to do with the way i'm acting.
i've taken the advice...if i go to a different school that doesnt have my sorority then i think i might try to start one. i just have to figure out how you do that. it just made my more sense to me just to go to one that has mine if you know what i've mean. i've only been in it for a semester so i would like to continue with it.

Maybe you'll listen to me...or maybe you'll go find someone who will give you the answer you want to hear. Either way, I'm going to try to be nice (which is hard) and help you out.

1. You need to PM KSUViolet06. She is a tri sigma alum, a national volunteer and can help you as a sister.

2. The long and short of the matter is, you need to put your education in front of your sisterhood. If that means transferring to a school without a chapter then it's what you have to do. If you need a group of women to belong to at your new school, live in an all-women's dorm, join a knitting group or volunteer for the girl scouts.

3. Sure-you can disaffiliate, but you still can't join another NPC sorority. Maybe your new school has a local sorority that will want you. It's your only choice to become an active sister at a school without Tri Sigma. And there's no guarantee that they'll take you either.

4. A lot of women find that going alum is very rewarding. You can get involved with your local AA and meet more sisters.

5. You've got what, 3 years left of college? If you love Tri Sigma as you claim to, you can still stay a sister and be involved even if you're not active anymore. There are hundreds of other clubs you can get involved with at college. I had just as much fun with my taekwondo club friends as I did with my sisters-more in some cases.

6. The NPC unanimous agreement is not bullshit or 'gay'. Please don't use the word gay to describe something you find stupid. It's offensive, especially to me because my big is actually gay and I love her with all my heart.

Have you considered the University of South California for media studies? Also, what about Marist College in NY State? They have your major and a tri sigma chapter.

No. I'm guessing she didn't know the rules or chose to IGNORE them. The rules have been around for a LONG time.

And learn your damn geography. Thinking that the midwest and west are the same has made you look REALLY stupid.

OK, this is driving me crazy. You are NOT looking for a "media relations" major or anything like that. I take it you don't know what media relations really is, but you need to believe me because it's a big part of what I do for a career. You are looking for a telecommunications or broadcast journalism major.

The problem is that honestly those specific majors are just not offered at a great number of schools, particularly ones that, to be blunt, accept students with un-stellar academic records. And before you jump to defend your academic record, let me just say I'm pretty shocked that you didn't take math all four years of high school; I graduated from hs in 1996 and even back then we were told that in order to get into a good college you needed four years of math. You just didn't prepare yourself well enough to go to many BIG, impressive, good-academics, school pride, residential universities. Here is what is fair: students who prepare the most usually get the most in return.

Most people in broadcast fields today didn't actually major in broadcast-specific majors. A journalism major would actually prepare you very well, as would a general communications major, but you have to do more to prepare yourself outside of the classroom, too. You need to get an internship, take a job as a PA like every other scrub in the business, or volunteer at the school's TV station if they have one.

The person who suggested Univ. of Southern Calif. was right on...they have a terrific film and communication arts school, as does my university nearby, but I don't think schools of that caliber will accept students with academic records that are similar to what you've implied/spoken of here.

Anyone west of the Mississippi must have chestnut eyes. Therefore, SmartBlondeGPhiB is Russian.
