That affiliate thing is not the real thing. Only the real thing is the real thing, LOL. That's like when I had to quit law school due to Lupus, and was dealing with the loss of that dream, people would tell me to become a paralegal. It's NOT the same thing.

This depends on how you define "real thing" and IMO if the sisterhood is real, than it's the "real" thing. I just want to clear something up here because I don't want any of our Philo members to be offended by this and I know that some of them are on greekchat. You should really know what you're talking about before you make such a statement.
The Philo Club of Sigma Gamma Rho functions much like a sorority although they are not greek. These women have a long and illustrious history of supporting and assisting Sigma Gamma Rho in serving the community and they believe in our goals and mission. They have their own sisterhood, officers, by-laws, colors, theme, flower, etc. and head community service projects on their own, although they are under the advisement of the Sigma Gamma Rho grad chapters. These women do not have 4 year degrees and are not enrolled in 4 year college programs, but they are successful and accomplished in their own right. They are proud to be members of their sisterhood and just like us, many look forward to being active for a lifetime. These women are a part of our family and we don't see them as not being able to take part in the "real" thing.
A sisterhood such as the Philo Club could be a viable option for SOME non-traditional students. These women have more history and service under their belts than ANY of these new organizations, so please do the research before making uninformed statements.
For more on the Philo Club of Sigma Gamma Rho, go to www.philoclub.org.

This is all well and good, but being a Philo is merely settling for women who have it in their heart to actually BE an SGRho.
If any of the Philo women go to an SGRho and say "soror," they will be reminded that they aren't a duly initiated member but rather an affiliate member. If any of the women were to list SGRho as one of their organizational memberships, that would be a misrepresentation.
There's no substitute for the real thing.

I've heard about this happening... never seen it first hand, though.
And I wouldn't advertise your English translation skills just yet.

What I don't understand is how can members of newer orgs. decide NOT to answer questions asked about your orgs.? How else is someone to find out about your org. and what it does? The same way that you feel people are taking your words out of context is the same way you may be taking the responses/questions of others.
Some of our questions are NOT meant to have you "justify" your orgs., but merely to get to the root of their existence. While some orgs. are boasting that they offer all of these great things to your members, no one is willing to EXPLAIN what they are. All I keep reading is that the D9 or "traditional" orgs. don't offer this and don't offer that, yet no one can really tell us what that is. I haven't heard any mention of programs, initiatives, recruitment objectives, retention efforts, etc. As soon as those questions are asked, you either can't answer because you DON'T KNOW or the ever-confusing "I'm not going to 'justify' my org. to you...." BS. WTH?
I just hope that these orgs. REALLY have solid plans instead of the thoughts of "glitz and glamour" that comes with being in a "sorority" or "fraternity."

So how did I make an assumption?

If it becomes a regional sorority, great. Recognition from other GLOs, while welcome, is not necessary.

Well, it's not really the "end of story" when there can be, and is, a discussion surrounding it.
As for elitist BS, anything that doesn't accept everyone and their momma can be labeled "elitist."

Nor did I say that it was.
Do you think that most of these knockoff organizations are a genuine and longstanding threat to organizations that have been here for decades? Show that you can withstand the test of time, then you'll be taken seriously by your target audience (and others). But you still won't be our competition.
But it's good to know that you and others in organizations like yours haven't completely dismissed the possibility of joining an NPHC sorority one day. Do you see how that makes you all NOT a threat or competition?

Welcome, Bakudan.
This message board isn't about life in Greece. This message board is about those who belong to American and Canadian organizations so named by Greek letters. I don't know if anyone here can help you with specifically what you are looking for, but if they can, more power to you.
I am only saying this because I doubt you will find what you are looking for on this board, but good luck in getting what you seek nonetheless.

Exactly.
I have to be honest and say I don't care what the newer orgs are about. That's for them to work out on their own so they can get their members. I think her org is a good idea but they need to make sure they know what they're about--besides nontraditional students.

I can't believe that you would even say this. Many Philos are women who do not want to obtain 4 year college degrees. They may hold associate degrees or be successful in many other ways. Many just want to experience an organized sisterhood and support Sigma Gamma Rho. Many Philos are the mothers, sisters, friends, aunts, etc. of SGRho members and some have been active for over 30 years or more. Let's not offend them please. They have all they want and need in the Philo Club or they would not stay active.

Indeed.
When I first started researching Delta and talking to members, not ONCE did I read something or have a member say to me "those other sororities are full of crap...or don't do THIS...that's why we're great." I would've been like "uh...okay...why are you all so special again?" Delta stood on its own merit. It was then up to me as an obsessed ( ) hopeful to decipher where Delta worked for me and vice versa and how Delta differed from the other sororities (the differences weren't a huge component of my decision but were just outlined after I had make up my heart and mind).
The nontraditional student thing is a great foundation for that org's target audience and is a place to build up from. But they HAVE to build up from that and not keep coming back to "differences."

If my comments don't pertain to some of them, they will have no reason to jump off of a bridge. Those who my comments pertain to, will be offended and perhaps need to make the appropriate changes like going to college.
If they want to be an SGRho, they will feel like they are getting half of the puzzle even if they are happy with the Philo sisterhood. If they don't want to be an SGRho, they will be happy with being a Philo and desire to go no further. I'm sure you're not a mind reader or know every one of them. So you really don't have to present yourself as the Philo feelings and intentions representative.

This was uncalled for. I can present myself in any way I choose, speak on anything I choose, and defend anything I choose.
Thanks for your comments though.

Roz-
What if TOMORROW, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. changed it policies on membership intake and stated we will now induct non-traditional, online, and part time students because they can become valued members to my Sorority?
How would your sorority "compete" against our years of inducting (spelled marketing, membership information and recruitment) of members?
I think sistahgreeks, Ladylike and DSTChaos are trying to help you. Along with BlueReign and my soror, RefinedDiva... They are PROFESSIONALS in various fields that KNOW how something in life works... I know my Soror Refined is in the law and there are several legal things you need to be following so that when someone sues you, you are not asking your membership to pay...
By statements like: "Asking how to run a GLO, then stating that you don't have to "justify" your organization...Well, that sounds too much like biting the hand that fed you...

You're making this what it doesn't have to be.
But it's funny.
