I always wanted to see a movie adaptation of J.D. Salinger's Catcher in the Rye.
Unfortunately, many movie adaptations are way worse than the original books. Terrible casting and literary license can ruin the effects of a great story sometimes.

Excellent book...but soooo difficult to adapt due to some pretty...er...tough parts to adapt for an audience. They would probably need to rate it PG13 or R at the minimum if they stay faithful to the book.

All this time
I read The Giver for the first time when I was 7, and it went waaaaaaay over my head (looking back, what was I doing reading such a deep story in 2nd grade???).
But it was in the car on a family road trip and I finally picked it up again when I was in undergrad. Shoot, I was crying by the end of it!! It is so good! I can't believe it's taken so long to get a movie underway. ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0435651/)
My only concern is that it is the type of book that can easily be Disney-fied and turned cheesy. Let's hope not *Crossing my fingers*.

A Wrinkle in a Time. Althought they made a televison version, this book deserves a major motion picture deal. Read it in the fifth grade and it is still my favorite book.

I love Madeline L'engle, all of her books. I really like A Ring of Endless Light.

I thought this was already a movie...I looked it up on imdb.com ( http://imdb.com/title/tt0290382/) apparently it was a TV movie, but it seems like it wasn't adapted well. But that could be a whole 'nother thread: movies that insulted the greatness of their books!
