Acceptance by Susan Coll.

This is a really funny work of fiction. It is a look at the college admissions process of three families and a stressed-out admissions counselor at a LAC that has just moved into the top 50 on the US News rankings through a data calculation error. The HS is supposedly in Montgomery County but it could be any upscale suburban school. I was on the waitlist for this book for a month but it was worth it!

Mostly legal texts, obviously, because of law school, but I finally finished The Beer and Whiskey League: The Illustrated History of the American Association. It's about the early days of baseball in the American Association, its fight with the National League, and the players who made up the league. I'm a baseball geek, so the information is very good; however, the authors get a bit overboard at times in complaining about the better AA players not being in the Hall of Fame.

I <3 Jen Lancaster! Have you read Bitter is the New Black? I picked it up over Christmas and could not put it down for two weeks.

Currently, I'm reading Teacher Man by Frank McCourt. I love his clear voice and honesty in teaching within the public school system. I am currenly on the chapter where he teaches at a community college. He is really aggravated and amazed at the students there. I'm rooting for him to go back to public high school.

This is my favorite quote from the book:

"I want you to realize this is the first class in the world ever to study the art of the excuse note, the first class, ever, to practice writing them. You are so lucky to have a teacher like me who has taken your best writing, the excuse note, and turned it into a subject worthy of study."
