It's alright that you asked, but you did make a common mistake that a lot of new GC members make in that you put enough personal information out there already that made it exceedingly easy for anyone to figure out where you went to school.

I have friends from your school that graduated a few years back, and I think you might be confused, actually. The four social sororities on your campus to which you were referring all local -- not national (i.e. members of the NPC). I know your sorority has the title "Local Sorority" in its official name but the rest are locals too.

To answer your original question, your being able to receive a bid if you deactivate has a lot to do with the other sororities' bylaws. Even if you're not prevented from going through recruitment again at your school, it doesn't mean that the other sororities won't view you as a "liability" -- that is, it's possible that the other sororities might view you as a risk if you deactivate from your current sorority and may not be willing to take a chance on you.

I'm sorry if I'm wrong and you were actually referring to wanting to join one of the national professional sororities on your campus, or national multicultural/NPHC sororities. No matter what sorority you're interested in potentially joining if you decide to deactivate, before you move on from here, it would be in your best interest to discuss this situation with your school's Greek life office so you know what your options are.

They have 4 national groups too, unless her sorority's at a totally different school than most of us came up w/ in our google.

You may have had an incomplete NM education and never have heard of those groups, but they are still all NPC sororities.

Thanks, but I have had a complete NM, and have heard of all of these groups. I was only familiar with friends who were members of an "Intersorority Council" group. I was under the impression that they were an all local campus based on speaking briefly with my two friends, but as I peruse the website I see that I've missed the NPC section.

So my bad, zenphi, but my advice still holds true. While you may not be precluded from joining these national groups as a matter of bylaw, you may still hit roadblocks if you decide to go through recruitment again if you're viewed as a "liability." I'm sure it has happened before, and it may not happen in your situation, but you should still keep this in mind. You may still want to speak to your Greek advisor and really examine your campus culture to see if going through recruitment again is a viable option for you.

I missed that section on the university site at first too, so its not just you. I think the website design leaves a little something to be desired in terms of clarity, but that's just me. (Not to mention that they spell Panhellenic wrong twice!)

I missed the NPC sorority section too. That website is very poorly designed.

Honestly, at the local level it doesn't matter what the letters are, because if you had ChiO instead of SDT or ADPi instead of DPhiE the girls would still be the same. Being a PhiSig instead of an AlphaSig doesn't change you as a person. All of our sororities have great philanthropies, mission statements, creeds, flowers, jewels and patrons, etc...but it comes down to the people, not the letters. ASA was right for me at my school, but who's to say if went to Radford instead that I would have fit better with a different group.
Truest thing I have ever seen on GC! I can say without question if I started school as a freshman where I am now, I wouldn't be a SDT sister at all...it's not about the letters (at least, on a local level) but it's about the girls.
