Stranger than Fiction
I tried search to make sure this didn't exist already, and all I saw was a Drolefille mention in the Blades of Glory thread.
I saw Stranger than Fiction today, and I loved it.
It seemed to me to be a far better movie with better writing, acting, and overall quality than some of the award winners from last year, especially in direct comparison with Little Miss Sunshine, which I also liked, but other than Steve Carell's Proust scholar doesn't retroactively rock my world like STF.
Anyone? Thoughts?
Do you think it seemed a little bit too much like I Heart Huckabees, which I don't even think compares to STF, for it to gotten more award recognition than it did? (In other reviews it compares it to The Orchid Thief, which I found pretty unwatchable, but maybe made STF seem "done before" to some people?

I Heart Huckabees was way different I thought. The muted colors are really the only similarity.. oh wait.. Dustin Hoffman was in both wasn't he? (I <3 Dustin Hoffman)
I think I agree with DH's character in STF. The book (and the movie) would have been better with his death, but you couldn't have killed him. I really did like that movie

Is that the WIll Ferrell movie?
I really liked this movie. I saw it when it came out in '06.
Even though I anticipated a comedy (that's how most of the previews made it look), it was a great story and I felt all the actors did an incredible job.

I didn't think that I Heart Huckabees and Stranger Than Fiction were really that similar either, except in the, forgive me for a BS literary term, metafictional aspects of each. You have a character in a story able to consult an expert about the story he or she is experiencing or writing.
But I wondered how people in love with Little Miss Sunshine could find it better than STF, which apparently the awards givers did.
Will Farrell got a Golden Globe nomination, but I think that's all the recognition that it got by anyone I'd ever heard of.
My husband and I wondered if the darker ending that DH's character would have preferred would have made it appeal to critics more. It would have been weightier and introduce themes about the values used for artistic evaluation versus morality, etc.
I loved it just as it was. For lack of better words, "depth," hope, and happiness seem much harder to pull off than depth and despair.
