on the other hand, lots of stories are directly copy/posted onto GC (and other forums, blogs, etc). what exactly happens when someone incorrectly posts a copyrighted story? i mean, its not like the OP is saying she wrote the story. shes giving the credit where its due.

True. However a search can pick it up here rather than owners site.
I do not claim to understand copywright laws and fair use but I do know enought (as I once or twice in the past did what OP did and was corrected myself
) just to post a tease of the story along with the link.
