Myspace?

I'm not a fan of the joint myspaces either. Seriously is it that difficult to create your own account? And what happens if the wonder couple breaks up and they have to *gasp* get their own pages, I bet that's torture.

I'm also not a fan of getting random messages from creepy guys like this one:

"how ya doing..... i was just on here looking around for friends and seen your profile and i thought maybe we could chat somtime maybe...... i am married but my wife does know i am on here just so u know..... so drop me a line if u would like to maybe we can get to know each other
talk to u soon i hope"

I had a chapter sister who made one for her guniea pig. I refused to add it as a friend, she got pissed. Then it died. I think the myspace page is still up though. Now I need to go see.

That's what dogster.com is for.

My daughter and all her friends have deleted their My Space accounts now because "it's boring". It's soooo last year, you know? Ah well, less for me to check up on now.

I can see how MySpace would be tres passe for your daughter and her friends, especially since their social network is limited.

I'm still addicted because I find old friends and former classmates every day.

Um, what happened to parents actually taking responsibility for their kids and monitoring their online use?

Seriously AGDee, you need to teach a class to some of these parents!

The IT department put a blocker on Myspace at work!

I know there were some people on there all day long-- but come on.....

You should! And while you're at it, PLEASE educate high schoolers and collegians as well, who for some reason think that parents, schools administration, potential employers, family friends, youth group leaders, etc. can't see what they post. It's frustrating watching people post pictures of them drinking underage, giving way too much information about their bodies at parties, or even doing drugs. Even though there have been articles about it in the papers, they still think they're safe, and they're only hurting themselves. Parents DO need to monitor the sites to make sure their kids aren't being downright stupid as far as safety and image is concerened.

I always know not to post things on my myspace or facebook that would upset my mom...because I guarantee she's looking at them!

You may want to make sure that they don't just do Facebook instead.

They are only in middle school and yes, their social network is limited. They won't be doing facebook for another 5 or 6 years. It's a relief to me because I was worried about some of the information some her friends were posting and even ended up doing an Internet Safety session for her Girl Scout troop because they were giving out way too much info about themselves, including age, school and pictures. I explained how a child predator could just sit in their school parking lot at the end of the day, watch which bus they get on, check the bus stop schedule online on the school district website and eventually, follow them home from school. Yes! Good luck! It does sound like you are doing an excellent job.

There's high school facebook now, but as far as I know, no middle school facebook.

If I had kids, I don't know how I'd handle it. I think having one family computer for the kids, so they knew you could check the history might be a start (but they can still use other computers).

I think showing them the risks is probably the best way to encourage them to be careful.

Facebook is open to everyone now, so theoretically, I guess I middle schoolers could join on a regional network or no network. CREEPY.

That was my main reservation against joining myspace (and why my myspace profile that I reluctantly, finally got is private with very little information on it) and I'm angry that facebook's been moving in that direction for a while now. I didn't want highschoolers on there (and creepy old men pretending to be highschoolers)...why on earth would I want to open it up to people out of school, too?! Yeeeuch.

Hooray privacy options!

Bwahahahaha, I made one for my unofficial "roommate"--a purple stuffed bunny named Coco.

Oddly enough, it was able to find more stuffed bunny friends on myspace. Weird site.
