It only works with the nano and supposedly only with certian nike running shoes. I've never used it, but I know a few people who hate it.
Why do you want it? To keep you on pace, for heart rate, or milage? I would suggest getting a good watch instead. But thats just me.
And becareful about getting too relied on music. Most races don't allow headphones on the course. Many officals choose to ignore that rule, but especially if you in the top of the runners, they might get picky. And please please please tell me... you aren't going to be running in the street with headphones on, are you? It would make me
