I don't know the answer to this, but since that movie came out, I've wondered this myself. It probably wouldn't be practical to split the teams flying (50/50 on 2 aircrafts...kinda like how the President and the VP are not permitted to fly on the same airplane). I would think that the planes just carry everybody onboard and they take that chance that they plane will make it from A to B safely. Maybe if you're an athlete making a Michael Jordan'esque salary, then you can charter your own plane.
