They (they as in Phi Mu) have to wait until the campus panhellenic votes to open the campus for expansion.
They have to also make sure National Panhellenic OKs the expansion.
Then, once the campus is officially "open for expansion," any NPC sorority that doesn't have a chapter there can send a packet indicating their interest. Even if these other NPC groups KNOW that the girls on the campus want Phi Mu, if they consider it a desirable expansion opportunity, they will send a packet anyway.
The campus panhellenic looks at all the packets they've received, and picks what they think are the 3 best groups to come and present to them. And guess what? Phi Mu isn't included in the 3.
They went from having a "lock" to not even being in the race.
So to make a long story short (guess it's too late for that), if you feel like you are continually getting hosed when it comes to NPC expansion opportunities, you might not want to be in NPC anymore. And yes, I can see it happening at some point.
(The use of Phi Mu in this story is for dramatic purposes only. )

Thanks! This is exactly what I meant!
(and btw, expansion policies was just an example, my point was really that there already are TONS of groups out there that meet the criteria set out by NPHC, it's just that none of them have an AA focus)

So the question remains: If Phi Mu petitions NPHC, they meet all of the criteria, no?

It could be University of Maryland College Park. Their NPHC has LTA.

I know of one org that possibly could meet the requirements if they ever petitioned membership that was founded in the past 20-25 years. Realistically however, I doubt that they would ever do so, at least anytime soon.

if Phi Mu petitioned NPHC to become a member organization, would they make it in cause they meet the criteria?
if a young lady wanted to be a part of Phi Mu, would she make it because she met all the requirements?
i'd imagine its a case by case decision. i can only go by what the NPHC site says, i don't know how they make their decisions any more than someone else who reads their FAQs.

How would they meet the mission of the NPHC? So I would say in my opinion having a AA focus is a key element to admission.
I'm not a big fan of having another orgnaization added to NPHC.

That was pretty much the question being asked.

Hmm
Personally, I just think "The Divine Nine" just sounds too good and is so well known. I'm not sure if this was asked (please forgive me if it was), but is there any group that is trying to become a member now?
