Yeah, I didn't really need a 3rd, so the cliff hanger was just unfortunate and disappointing. However, it isn't really the cliff hanger that bothered me, it just seemed that nothing much was accomplished after 2.5 hours. With Lord of the Rings or even Kill Bill each movie accomplished something. Some significant part of the story was told and had advanced. I didn't really feel that with Dead Man's chest. I'm happy with an open ending and a set up for the next film. However over 2 hours of running/sailing around to no avail was not my idea of a good time.

Oh - yeah, that makes sense. On the other board I'm on, they all were complaining about the ending of it. Which is why I assumed that's what you had meant. I totally agree with you from this regard. It was shameless "let's put in enough fighting to make the trailers look good" type stuff. If you watch the DVD with the commentary, they reveal so much of what they were trying to put across on film, but that hopelessly fell flat on the audience (like foreshadowing Jack's demise twice - once in the coffin at the beginning, and once when he fell in the grave during the wheel scene). I thought given the time of that movie, they could have saved the subtle gestures & just spelled it out for everyone.

I haven't watched the commentary but just the other day I was watching the movie again and I thought about the foreshadowing of Jack being the coffin and the grave, but the thing is I've now watched the movie like five times now. Some people just get foreshadowing right away, some don't (for heaven's sake my mom still finds "something new" in Independence Day and how old is that movie now? LOL.)

In response to the last few posts...
Let's face it, usually the 2nd movie in a trilogy kinda sucks but you need it to get to the plot in the 3rd movie. Star Wars is an exception; "The Empire Strikes Back" is probably the best, IMO. But LOTR, "The Two Towers" was painful for me...just a bunch of walking.
I had high hopes for DMC, but I really only enjoyed the last 45 minutes in which Jack Sparrow was making hilarious comments/faces and there was action sequences that had a purpose. The sword fight on the wheel was awesome, but the cannibal island was pointless.

You hush, Two Towers is my favourite. I have no patience whatsoever for ROTK, apart from the battle of minas tirith. I may also be one of a few who just doesn't like POTC. I don't. I haven't even seen Dead Man's Chest. Curse of the Black Pearl was torture to get through. I've watched it twice...just ugh.

Ok, so I just saw it, and it was okay. I liked the (very) end; after the credits...hated it before that. I got bored; they could have cut out like 45 minutes of fighting, and you wouldn't have missed anything important! It was good, but could have been better.

um...i haven't seen it yet, but i knew it. it looks like a big build up to a pointless fight somewhere in asia. they didn't advertise any type of plot...therfore, one does not exist. but i'll be seeing it tomorrow. i mean it's only fair if i threw money to se tobey mcguire dance around with bangs in his face and enough eyeliner to make up the rockettes. i just hope the resolution to the love triangle is not boring and there isn't too much time wasted on new characters because they weren't in the first two so at this point i don't care.
i would like to take the time to mention that johnny depp went to high school in the city where i live and though i didn't go to that school (too far east so we went to the next city over), we did share an english teacher and one of his former classmates also teaches at my former high school as well.

I agree! During the entire credits I was sitting there thinking "I hate this movie because the ending sucks!!!!" The end of the credits helped to fix this!!! However, I still didn't like the ending, and I reached the conculsion that nothing will ever be as good as the 1st one (One of my all time fav movies!) Though I do have to say, I absoutly loved the marriage scene, classic pirates, though I would have liked it better if Jack had done the wedding, it would have been funnier that way. Oh and did anyone notice which sword it was that killed certain people?

I just saw this movie. Um, maybe I am blind, but I totally didn't understand a lot of it.

I was a bit surprised about what happened at parts of the movie. But overall, it was pretty good. Much better than Dead Man's Chest.

wasn't just you... my friends and I were lost for most of the time. I've been telling everyone that's going to watch it to re-watch Dead Man's Chest first... cause I think that would've really helped me. but even if I had... the movie was still like an hour too long.

I saw the movie this morning and I really liked it. I didn't find the plot that hard to follow...I just got temporarily confused at some of the double, and triple, crossing.
I was satisfied with the ending, and I also hope they make a Pirates 4 with or without Keira and Orlando.

Well I got the foreshadowing right away, but I realize that some people don't. I don't know how many movies there have been where I didn't see the "shocking twist" coming early on and it seemed everyone else did.
I waited for DMC on DVD, so I already knew not to expect too much. Because of this, I was able to just enjoy the movie for its entertainment value. I can't wait for AWE to come out! I'm really curious about what really happened to Jack (seeing as how he's in the third movie).
