My experience with those areas is limited to OU/TX weekend. I generally had a pretty good impression of those areas based on what I saw..
Mac, I defer to your superior judgment in this matter.

I was serious. It's your home turf, and my experience with the area is limited mainly to OU-TX weekend. With that crowd, Dallas is a different town. I've had a good time in Greenville and Deep Ellum.

Yeah Mac, if you get a chance, throw out a few good places (for people like me) to hang out. I think we may go see REK in FW, so a good bar or two there would be helpful as well.

I've only been to OU/TX one time, not shocking since I went to Oklahoma State. We stayed at the Mansion at Turtle Creek. I thought it was really nice, but I think I remember it being quite a distance to the Cotton Bowl. I was with my parents so they didn't really care so much about the proximity as being away from loud parties. Fun-haters!
I have been to Dallas many times. There is no shortage of great places to stay.

Fort Worth:
Pete's Piano Bar
Library
Snookies
The Aardvark
Food: I would go to Joe T Garcias in Fort Worth. Must for people that haven't been in Fort Worth much at all. Tex Mex with incredible margaritas.
Dallas: (most of these are near SMU and close to Uptown and Downtown......not hard to find.....just tell a cabbie the name and he will know.)
Accross the Street Bar
Barley House
Uptown Bar
Hoffbrau
Gypsy Tea Room
Ozonas
Ice House
Whisky Bar

Gypsy Tea Room is right in the heart of Deep Ellum. You know, the place you said not to go.
Also, Cedar Springs is the gay area, not Lower Greenville or Deep Ellum.

I said Deep Ellum can be fun...but I wouldn't go there looking for great nightlife. I really shouldn't have put Gypsy Tea Room on there considering everytime I have gone it has been rented out for some reason or another.
.......and I have seen plenty of gays on Greenville. I am well aware of where things are in Dallas.....I am there quite often and have family in Highland Park.
