Go Big Red!
The best advice you'll ever get about the Cotton Bowl -- take a taxi there, make arrangements for one to pick you up. You don't want to park your car (or even have to walk around) in that neighborhood.

Thanks for the advice... any other tips? I'll be staying at a HI Express in Mesquite. Worst case scenario, hopefully the worst of that neighborhood will still be sleeping/hungover at the 10:30am start...

I haven't booked a hotel for Dallas yet. I think if we do it'll be the Hyatt Regency, which is the team hotel. My friend inherited a house in Lake Highlands, I think we'll probably end up staying there. Either way, I'm getting drunk, all day, all night.

I like the Regency as Shiner mentioned or the Adolphus -- the Adolphus has a really nice bar, live jazz, etc. I've never stayed in a HI Express.

If I were you, I'd spring for a nice, well located hotel. I like the rooms at the Hyatt better than the Adolphus, but the Adolphus has more character. The Hyatt has a bar up in that observation deck thing as well. Be sure to check out Greenville or Deep Ellum for the nightlife. West End is extremely overrated.

While I'd like to stay at the Adolfus (it's the team hotel), me and the group i'm going with is on a budget - $79/night govt rate is a lot better than $229 downtown, the only rate available since the tour companies booked all the rooms in advance.

The HI will be fine - it provides all I need for the one night I'll be there - a place to crash for a few hours.

For the love of God........don't go to Greenville of Deep Ellum for the nightlife....unless you want to be around a bunch of gays (seriously) and wierdo hippies/emos. Deep Ellum can be fun (Gypsy Tea Room)......but there is much better.

Stay in the Uptown/Downtown area and around all of the bars near SMU. If yall want a rundown of the best places to go.....i'll be happy to provide one.

Shiner.......the Hyatt will be great if that is where you end up staying if the Lake Highlands place doesn't work out. It is in a good location. We always stay at the Adams Mark for OU/TX.....or my relatives that live in Highland Park. The Adams Mark Hotel is in a great spot and offers tons of accomodations to and from the Cotton Bowl on game days.

My experience with those areas is limited to OU/TX weekend. I generally had a pretty good impression of those areas based on what I saw..

Mac, I defer to your superior judgment in this matter.
