It's not so much that all theme parties can be offensive (ex. sleepover theme, star wars night, themed after a show/movie) but it's this particular one that is just blatantly stereotypical. Being Latina, and Mexican at that, I can find humor in it because Mexicans joke about it but it's a different story when an entire party is thrown to ridicule or mock situations most Americans don't bother to learn about. Not every Mexican came here illegally, cuts grass or has seven babies. Perhaps better judgement should have been used.

I actually don't think there's anything wrong with the theme of the party..."Tacos and Tequila." It's the way the members interpreted it that caused the problem. It could have just been a fiesta with Mexican food, beer and whatnot, but instead some members decided to use it as an opportunity to insult a demographic. I just don't understand how/why some people come up with ideas like that...I can't imagine most people hear of a "Tacos and Tequila" party and think, "Perfect! I'm going to come dressed up as a poor, pregnant Mexican woman!" It's just odd thinking.

I didn't want to mention this before, but I have definetly heard of these parties going on here at U of Florida. It was sickening, especially when I saw the photos
My point is that these parties can happen anywhere.

I think there is a lot wrong with it. Campus rules limit alcohol consumption to BYOB beer or wine coolers, so you can not serve tequila. Also, DDD's rules do not allow their name to be associated with a party theme involving alcohol.
I think you are trying to say that there is nothing wrong with a fiesta theme, and I would agree with that.
