DVD

[Hijack] And now back to your regularly scheduled program. [Hijack] Does anyone have the School Daze DVD? I bought it and Spike Lee's commentary is unbeleivable.

*At one point he talks about being in charge of the Homecoming fashion show in college. Spike wanted the fraternity's sweethearts to dress more conservatively in the show because "their t!tt!es" were out in previous years. According to Spike a group of guys in different fratenities burst into his room and told him, "These [the sweethearts] are our b!t@hes. You do not tell us how to dress our b!t@hes. If we want their @sses to hang out their @sses will hang out. " I was like

Yeah, I have the DVD. It's actually really good commentary. It allows the movie to redeem itself for it's weird ending.

I would definitely recommend watching the DVD with the commentary. You learn so much.

This thread has been interesting entertainment while I have been patiently waiting for my queries to run

I crossed in 1986 around the School Daze era so the memory of this film and the whole era brings back memories. Where can I get the DVD? I have my original VCR tape from back in the day but I would be interested to see the 'bonus features' on the DVD. Thanks!

I got mine for Best Buy last Christmas for no more than $10. Check Amazon out for a good deal.

I took my daught to see School Daze before her senior year in high school. It solidified her desire to go to a HBCU - LOL. Can't believe it's been that long ago.

When Spike Lee was at our national convention years ago to show the trailer of Malcolm X, he talked about how indebted he was to DST and the NY Alumnae chapter for feeding him, giving him a place to stay and helping to finance his movies in the early days (because his family's close neighbor was a member.) Thus the positive reference to us in School Daze.

That is also why he sought approval from our late Soror Betty Shabazz and made suggested changes before releasing Malcolm X.

I didn't know that! At least SOMEONE sought our approval for a film depicting us
