DAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYUUM @ The Skinny Boys!! My brother, unfortunately, sold our collection of 12 inches. . We had the Skinny Boys though. The only ones I can remember off the top of my head that might still be back home are the single Eric B. for President, LL's first album, MC Shan's first album, Criminal Minded, and The Message. We had SO many more though.

Am I the only one here who only owns records and casettes with old school hip hop? I can't bring myself to buy CDs because it takes away that old school flava.
<----still listens to Smif N Wessun (Heltah Skeltah...Black Moon... Boot Camp...my favorite group of all time) and an old school hip hop compilation cassette everyday.

I'm watching the re-run. I respect Wu Tang Clan and I miss ODB's crazy arse. His Brooklyn Zoo was classic.

Fixed that for you.
Men are often baffled by my musical/hip hop preferences, obsession with REAL horror movies, and my knowledge and mastering of certain types of video games.

I'm from the West Coast and I have to admit, I'm getting real sick of gangster rap being honored as if it's the only thing that has come out of the West Coast. What about Pharcyde, Digital Underground, E-40, hell even Cypress Hill (which is like Latin gangster rap)? If you are going to represent and recognized Hip Hop, represent all of it in its diversity. I agree that the Honors should have been given chronlogically...not based on a popularity contest. This would eliminate alot of confusion. But if we went by chronology it would be a long time before the West and South gets recognized so I suppose VH-1 doesn't want to step on toes...whatever
Likewise, I was really disappointed by the segment on the life story of Eazy-E...his death from AIDS may have shook folks in the hip hop community for a minute but the fact that Black folks, particularly Black women have the highest rates of contracting the disease should do more than make people pause. It should serve as a call to action. What is Ruthless Records doing to educate folks about AIDS? This issue really gets me amped up because if you look at the rate of HIV/AIDS in West Hollywood, CA (the "gay" part of town) the rate is 1 in 500 people contract HIV. Go to Eazy-E hometown of Compton (and surrounding areas of Long Beach and Watts) and that number is 1 in 200 people. Double the rates of the so-called "gay" area...so it begs the question: what is the collective hip hop community response to this dreadful disease?

MC Breeze was one of my favorites! Philly artist never get recognized for their contributions....Schooly D, 3XDope, Steady B...the only Philly artist they ever remember is Will Smith. Although Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince did change hip hop...they dared to be different and kept it clean.

When i went away to school that was always the first ?? i got asked is do you know Jeff and Will. I knew folks that was tight with them but not me personally.
EST from 3X Dope is a songwriter now. He got an award at the songwriter's version of the grammys like in 2003 or 2004 I believe. Few folks want to give Schooly D the credit of the godfather of gangsta rap. But the west coast does give it up to him for that. There were a lot of rappers/dj's from Philly that like you said don't get the credit. There are 3 DJ's that are still around and they are on the international scene: DJ King Britt (Central HS), DJ Viktor Duplaix (from DJ Master Don and Exotic Vic) and DJ Cash Money. They have all been in the International DJ competions that are held worldwide. They used to do a lot of the local clubs and house parties back in the late 80's (those were the days )

I used to love Schooly D and 3XDope! You're right, they don't get the props they deserve. Steady B is doing life though, and Cool C, who was down with him, has the death penalty.
