I watched it for the first time last night and enjoyed it. However, I just saw "The Devil Wears Prada" over the weekend and I kept thinking hmmm this seems familiar....

It is familiar, but Devil Wears Prada was first published in 2003 and the first Betty la fea came out in 1999. (according to Wikipedia) I think they are similar but still not the same story line, especially since DWP focuses on her horrible boss.

Speaking of telenovas, there are some shows on the Hispanic channel that I could get interested in except for the fact that they have no English subtitles. Yet, I can get Spanish subtitles on other stations, lol.

On a side note...other shows on the Spanish stations look totally wierd, i.e., stupid, lol. Kinda like a Hispanic gong show.

There is this preacher who dresses like Liberace and for a long time I couldn't figure out if male or female..know who I mean??

Back to Betty, it's cute and predictable. I did love the women fighting/use headphones scene.

As for next week, okay, in reality, geesh!! I would love to see Cliff and Stacy from What Not to Wear re-do her, lol.

I like the show, but I hope she is not going to be quitting that job EVERY week.

Me too!! Last night's ep was the best so far. I really liked the examination of the 3 contrasting father/child relationships.

Okay, who the hell is Fay and how is she relevant to the story?

Did Papa Meade try to off her or something? He obviously didn't get the memo that she's still alive...and I'm curious as to what Wilhelmina's relationship is with her -- other than bringing down the Meade clan, of course.

Did they ever mention how Alex died?

Perhaps they don't have the SAP (secondary audio programming) equipment. Be aware that many shows in Spanish are either made in Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Venezuela and a few others, and they all have their dialects and slang - some Spanish-speakers have a hard time following certain dialects.

That's gotta be Sábado Gigante - it's been running in Latin America for over 50 years. Four hours or so of silly games, interviews, entertainment and less than subtle plugola every Saturday night. The host (Don Francisco - real name is Mario Kreutzberger) is Chilean and the show is aired in Miami.

Walter Mercado. He's a very famous (and very bisexual) astrologer that hails from Puerto Rico, popular for his annual horoscope and predictions for the coming year. His magazine annual usually flies off the shelves in Miami's Hispanic communities. He dresses way over the top like some exotic magician, but I think it's part of his shtick.

I've tried to convince my husband that he's gay (or at least bats both sides)...HE WEARS MAKEUP - NOT STAGE MAKEUP, EYESHADOW & LIPSTICK for Christ's sake. My husband said he can't be gay because he's married. Right.

Latino gay culture can be strange indeed... I remember reading something about it in the Dallas Observer tabloid (aka 'porno paper') some time ago. Some can have a wife and kids and what otherwise looks like a normal family, yet they will have a gay relationship on 'the down low'.

l've heard about that kind of thing.
Although, I don't worry about it, because my husband gets squicked out when two guys kiss on MTV shows, and just about lost it and left the room during Brokeback Mountain.
