alum, it seems like your'e trying to recruit participation over there.
Really, who cares. That site shows the very definition of "helicopter parents". Overinvolved parents lording over their child's every decision, obsessing about everything they do and how great they all are, bragging, showing off, and generally all around trying to live vicariously through their children's accomplishments. It's sickening. It's the Jon Benet Ramsey of college admissions.
Trying to explain Greek life to them would be like trying to teach a pig to sing.

Quoted for good analogy. I would be absolutely nuts if my parents were like that.

wow alum-isn't it funny that the people who are so prejudiced against greek organizations are accusing greeks of holding the attitudes that THEY, themselves are exhibiting?
wouldn't it be interesting to know if any of these folks explored greek life while they were in college? i imagine they did not. instead they came to college closeminded, with preconceived notions of greek orgs.
and rileydog-what a piece of work that woman is?!?!?

It's the mentality of the Northeast. I grew up there. The parents and kids who post were just like the ones in my area back in the days of the dinosaur. Obviously things haven't changed since I left for college. In regards to the parents on CC who attended Ivies (probably in the 1970s if they have kids applying to college now), they probably didn't go greek or even join the finals clubs.
I do find it interesting that the same individuals that encourage and are proud of selectivity within the college admissions would be so against it in regards for a social organization.

OH FOR CRYING OUT LOUD.
Maybe it's the mentality of people you hung out with in the Northeast, but fortunately, not me.
Incidentally, if we aren't allowed to link to f****y.net, why should we be allowed to link to this? It's a competing site.

All precetions have some reality to be honest. I love my frat, but many frats go beyond a lot of the bad preceptions.

I actually have a big preception about many, but not all sororities/some fraternaties (on an individual level) that they are all stuck up fuckers. Many people on this forum prove this to be true threw making posts such as the one I'm quoting.
I love my fraternity because just as long as you are a cool guy who gets a long with everybody and don’t fit the loser category you stand a chance to at the least receive a bid from us. I really hate reading about all about these “sheep” sorority girls who are willing to do anything and everything down to even changing all morals to gain acceptance into a sorority.

You don't make sense. Typing errors are the least of your problems.

Just work on your spelling and word usage for a few words that you have difficulty with and everything will be okay. You spelled all those other words well and used them in the appropriate context.

There's a fantastic article in the latest Atlantic Monthly called "Gifted Children, Stupid Parents" or something similar about all this kind of stuff and how some parents actually have sued the school for their kids' emotional distress when they don't get straight A's. The article concludes with an admissions officer from MIT telling about 2 letters he got: one from a parent threatening a lawsuit because they didn't admit his son, and another from the son saying "thank you for not admitting me, this is the best day of my life."
