I must've read the wrong thread. I thought a lot of those people were disgruntled members.

I'm with Chaos on this one. Most of that thread was real talk. Some of it might have been misguided by people who had no clue about greek life, but there weren't too many rash generalizations. Mostly, I saw just secondary accounts from the parents of greeks. I must have read the wrong link too. Greek life involves more than those who pledged.

# 1, who ever the webs master is, they ain't no John H!
That site sucks from graphics in the readable postings.
# 2, it looks like a few unhappy folks.
# 3, there are going to be unhappy people who do not fit into a GLO that they joined, it just like getting married.
Well, I hope they have a nice day and stay a GDI if they do not like Greeks.

alum, it seems like your'e trying to recruit participation over there.
Really, who cares. That site shows the very definition of "helicopter parents". Overinvolved parents lording over their child's every decision, obsessing about everything they do and how great they all are, bragging, showing off, and generally all around trying to live vicariously through their children's accomplishments. It's sickening. It's the Jon Benet Ramsey of college admissions.
Trying to explain Greek life to them would be like trying to teach a pig to sing.

Quoted for good analogy. I would be absolutely nuts if my parents were like that.

wow alum-isn't it funny that the people who are so prejudiced against greek organizations are accusing greeks of holding the attitudes that THEY, themselves are exhibiting?
wouldn't it be interesting to know if any of these folks explored greek life while they were in college? i imagine they did not. instead they came to college closeminded, with preconceived notions of greek orgs.
and rileydog-what a piece of work that woman is?!?!?

There's a fantastic article in the latest Atlantic Monthly called "Gifted Children, Stupid Parents" or something similar about all this kind of stuff and how some parents actually have sued the school for their kids' emotional distress when they don't get straight A's. The article concludes with an admissions officer from MIT telling about 2 letters he got: one from a parent threatening a lawsuit because they didn't admit his son, and another from the son saying "thank you for not admitting me, this is the best day of my life."
