Sorority came, wore red, and shopped with a fever at Macy's
Sorority came, wore red, and shopped with a fever at Macy's
Philadelphia Business Journal - August 4, 2006
When the convention of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority came to town, people took notice.
For one thing, with 16,000 attendees dressed in red attire, they could be spotted throughout Philadelphia from July 31 to Aug. 3.
Macy's also took notice.
The department store, which opened in the former Lord & Taylor store on Aug. 2, arranged a special private opening just for the Deltas on July 29.
In four hours, some 5,000 Deltas scouted the aisles and scoured the racks. In the shoe department alone, they spent $40,000. In total, they spent $150,000.
Macy's responded by extending the private access two more days.
Overall, the Delta Sigma Theta annual meeting had a $20 million economic impact on Philadelphia, according to the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau.

This mayhem is why I avoided Macy's during Convention. My linesister insisted on walking to Macy's by herself and shopping. Came back with one of those free red bags with all the freebies inside. Secondhand freebies are good enough for me.

I'm sorry, it's mauve... (at least that's what my Delta aunt calls the color in her kitchen.)

The mauve thing is a running gag in my chapter. I guess it's a "Delta thang."

I am more surprised that you didn't recognize "the lady." I mean she can wear any color she damn well pleases.
But btw, in person it was lilac/lavendar.

Right!
For everyone else, Soror Height tends to wear purple shades rather than our typical red and white. Purple also is a signficant color to DST.

I was only making an observation (which happened to be wrong). I wasn't trying to be rude or anything. I apologize if I offended anyone.
