Well you guys who are offended by it shouldnt worry about it. It doesn't bother many people down here, so you guys do your thing and we'll do ours. That being said, it doesn't shock me that many on here think its so offensive, considering how seriously people on here take greek life. Don't get me wrong, greek life is great, but its not the end all, at least for most people I know. Then again, southern greeks tend to join a fraternity or sorority because of how they are, not because they desire to become something else. I didn't join a fraternity because I needed a life altering experience. I joined because people like me tend to do that, its part of growing up. Its a good way to make lifelong friends, strong connections, and to have a great time in some of the best collegiate environments in the country. Thus, a term like sorostitute is not gonna shake most people to the core down here.

This guy (you ARE a guy whereas most of us typing to you aren't--yet you keep using "guys") types like he's the only Southern GLO member on this board.

You have never heard or used the term "guys" when referring to a group of people.......like "hey guys, what are you doing?"

I tend to walk into a room full of men and say "hey gals."

They're usually thrilled to be called gals, since "gals" is the generic term for all human beings.

Thanks smartass.

I would assume its a location type thing maybe? Perhaps along the same lines as Coke, Soda, Pop, etc.

I dunno, i've never actually been around someone that would actually make some kind of issue out of it. Congratulations.

NO, it's not. Prostitution is not legal anywhere in Clark County.

You seem to be having a really hard time understanding that there are people in this thread who disagree with you are FROM THE SOUTH. Sheesh. It's really not that hard to grasp. I will lay it out for you:

I am from the South. Lived here forever. I went to undergrad at a large conservative PWI Southern university. I have close friends in NPHC, IFC, and NPC sororities and fraternities. I have NEVER heard anyone, jokingly or seriously, use the word "sorostitute" IRL. I find the word offensive and it amazes me that it is a term that people would use regularly, especially sorority women.

He was talking about using "guys."

I initially thought he was talking about "sorostitute" too because, although he quoted me, his post seemed to apply "across the board."

I don't know what IRL means.

Thanks. Sorry you've never heard the term.

I have to admit, macallan, that 'round here if you use "guys" like that, people will assume you've been spending too much time up North. It's considered yankee-speak.

When I was in middle school, my parents used to get on to me for saying "you guys", saying I'd been corrupted by my Yankee invader friends at school ... I don't think I've said it too much ever since.

^^^^^^^LOL, mine too. I think they were sure that the use of "guys" or "you guys" (unless it was, in fact, addressed to a group of males) was a sign that the TV needed to be turned off before I picked up anymore foreign expressions.

I made the mistake of saying "you guys" in front of my cousin's freinds in Dyersburg, TN. They immediatly stopped what they were doing and turned and looked at me and said "Ya'll from Chicago, ain't ya'll?" Well, Peoria, IL...close enough.
