It wasn't always that way, and even now some of the reporters are solid with good backgrounds (Gammons, Bob Ley, Michael Wilbon, Dan Patrick, John Clayton, etc.). Over the years, though, the entertainment aspect has become more important, and they've put former athletes (Joe Morgan, John Kruk and Sterling Sharpe, for example) into news roles that don't fit them. I'm not sure what their viewership numbers are, but I think they may be losing more of the diehard sports fans, the people who know their stuff.

I'm hoping Tony Kornheiser does well on MNF, because he's a good sportswriter, is smart and really funny. However, I'm afraid it will end up another experiment gone wrong.
