What are you talking about? When did the Supreme Court of the United States say that?

I teach Sunday School which certanily does not make me a real teacher, however, half my sorority sisters are teachers throughout the Midwest.

Actually, here in NC, Corporal Punishment is still allowed at the State Level. However, at the county level it's been outlawed in many places (like the county I teach in - Wake)...but there ARE still schools in NC that do practice slaps on the hands, etc. Most of these schools (suprise, suprise) are in very rural areas.

New teachers started in my district this past Friday (July 28). All teachers begin tomorrow, August 2. Kids start back on Aug. 9th.

Because I teach ESL, my students are in my classes for 2 periods. So far I have 12 students in 1st/2nd periods, 6 students in 4th/5th periods, and 2 students in 6th/7th periods.

My dad is starting his 40th year teaching Social Studies next week. 39th year coaching boys tennis and 17th year coaching girls tennis.

My brother is starting his 10th year teaching AP Chemistry this year.

I did 5 years of computer education at the 6th and 7th grade level. This year I am also starting my second year teaching 6th grade Language arts. I also co-coach Science Olympiad, am Technical Theatre Director and also co-sponser Drama Club.

We start school Monday and kids start wednesday.

First day of school was this past Weds. It was going to be stress-free. Room was set up the week before, lesson plans already written for next 2 weeks. And then: A brand new teacher insisted that she could notteach her classes without 2 dry erase boards and her overhead projector facing the side wall in the room. So guess who had to tear down and move their entire classroom the day before school started. Oh, wait, that would be me.
The rest of the week has went okay. I only had to hand out one detention today. Stopped a 7th grader running in the hallway. Asked him if he remembered how to walk. He said yes and began to goose step and give a Nazi salute as he proceeded down the hall. Parents fully backed me up. Gotta love 7th graders.

I am getting ready at 37 ( oh my what am i thinking) to go back to school and get my teaching credentials in elementry education.

That is so cool to hear! It is amazing how much children touch our lives as teachers; I can only hope to touch them as much.

I absolutely love teaching my first and second grade students. I "loop" with my students from first to second grade, so I really feel like I get to know them as well as their families.

High school French teacher checking in....as far as making a difference, I think at the high school level you may never know if you made a difference or not. I say that because some students are just motivated regardless of what I do, and to others a smile on a bad day may make a difference.

I fell into teaching when I went back for my MA after a semester off and working in the computer industry. I was a TA at the university and had a good time teaching there. One of my MA colleagues had an opening at his school for a French and German teacher - I interviewed and got the job. I'm now at a different school and only teaching French (my passion). Some people say that anyone can be a teacher, but I really don't think that is true. If anyone could do it, more people would stay. Had I listened to my grandma when I was 15, I would have been a teacher from the start- she knew I had it in me.
