Web Opera Pioneer Launches Book Tour

July 15, 2006, Washington, D.C. - Web Opera Pioneer Darrius Jerome Gourdine, will launch book tour of Jewels: The Story of the Founding of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, at the Centennial Celebration of the nation’s oldest collegiate black fraternity.

Marc Morial, President and CEO of the National Urban League, Kwame Kilpatrick, Mayor- City of Detroit, Lionel Ritchie- world known recording artist, and more than 30,000 members and supporters will be in attendance.

Seven college students bonded and created what would become one of the most influential organizations for collegiate men in the world. These young men, affectionately termed “Jewels” by members of the fraternity, paved the way for monumental achievement and success from leaders in the African American community. Men such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Thurgood Marshall, Adam Clayton Powell Jr., W.E.B. DuBois, Jessie Owens, Duke Ellington, Paul Robeson, Countee Cullen, and thousands of others have joined their ranks in membership.
